Is this picture of Ramsgate harbour?

Many thanks to Alan Hardcastle who sent me this picture scanned from an old glass plate that he believes to Ramsgate harbour in 1916, I am not at all certain it’s Ramsgate, anyone got any ideas.

  1. Michael, I think it may be Dover. The building that can be seen through the rigging does look like the building at the entrance to the Admiralty Pier. The flat looking building to the left looks like the Dover Marine Staion/Admiralty Pier.

  2. Thanks Tony. The photo was on an old glass negative - one of many images of Sheriff's Court, Minster; so just assumed it may be Ramsgate. My knowledge of Ramsgate as an area - as opposed to just the history of the farms in the area, is not that good I'm afraid. As it didn't concern farming it was not of much use to us, but thought I should run off a print anyway. These things always tend to go missing unless copies are made, and it may then be of interest to someone in the Dover area.

    Regards,
    Alan

  3. Could it perhaps be Whitstable?

Comments, since I started writing this blog in 2007 the way the internet works has changed a lot, comments and dialogue here were once viable in an open and anonymous sense. Now if you comment here I will only allow the comment if it seems to make sense and be related to what the post is about. I link the majority of my posts to the main local Facebook groups and to my Facebook account, “Michael Child” I guess the main Ramsgate Facebook group is We Love Ramsgate. For the most part the comments and dialogue related to the posts here goes on there. As for the rest of it, well this blog handles images better than Facebook, which is why I don’t post directly to my Facebook account, although if I take a lot of photos I am so lazy that I paste them directly from my camera card to my bookshop website and put a link on this blog.
