All of Thanet goes UKIP apart from Will Scobie

As far as I can see with the KCC election website not working and KCC not having event bothered to tweet the Thanet results yet that is the situation.

Nothing on the TDC website either, so although i managed to get the winners from various Tweets - possibly squawks - I can't find the actual numbers yet.

These figures are copied from the Gazette's website as the official KCC website still doesn't work.

  1. John Worrow's & Christine Tongue's publicity stunt obviously did the trick.

  2. HaHa worrow will be able to raise any concerns he has with equalities with his KCC Member now!

What a kick in the teeth for the two main parties and a timely wake up call. Maybe, though do not hold your breath on it, Conservative and Labour party hierachy will start listening to the people. Labour must be particularly gutted for they should have swept the floor mid term. Young Master Scobie did well to buck the trend.

  3. I'm a Lib-Dem supported in Cliftonville, and I feel extremely let down by the two candidates! Where were the door calls, and the leaflets? Did any of them even bother hanging around a polling station yesterday? I'm not saying we would've won, but we should've at least done much, much better!

    1. I'm sorry I missed you then. I would have appreciated talking to a supporter these last few weeks not to mention having another pair of hands helping out. As paper candidates Tony and I were on our own without the full power of the party behind us and if that is the case next time (which it might well be) I would really appreciate you making yourself known - you could make a big difference to the Liberal Democrat cause.

I was in and out of stations on voting day taking people to vote which one were you at? I did not see any party reps at any of the stations I visited and to be fair it doesn't really make much difference anyway. Counting, as far as I can tell, is more to keep an eye on how many promised voters show up.

    2. Matt, I see that you're now championing Will Scobie; presumably you will also continue your campaign for cllrs to choose between TDC & KCC, & not get paid for both?

  4. Now is your chance, Peter, with Will having to spend a lot of time in Maidstone!

    1. It does not follow if you look at the KCC meetings record of an ex KCC Margate councillor (38% attendance).

  5. 'Fraid the Lib-Dems have always been lazy. You never see them between elections and their names then pop up on the ballot paper. Great result for UKIP and for Thanet. For years the two main parties have done as they pleased and relied on block voting by pensioners to sweep them back to power. Neither party can rely on this any more. However, those people who say that they will have to start listening to the voters misunderstand the nature of the problem. The people who are selected as candidates for the main parties are not capable of listening to voters, let alone taking their views into account. They are wedded to their parties and arrogant beyond belief. They believe they have a right to govern and that their role is to tell people what is good for them. If the main parties want to respond to this they need to select candidates whose first priority is their constituents, and who are able to think for themselves. Above all, the whip only in exceptional circumstances. If you can't persuade your elected members to vote for something without threatening them, then maybe they shouldn't be voting for it.

    1. I see that Tony and Matthew via their blogs are claiming that they didn't have the time to do a little leafleting and campaigning... fair enough, but presumably they wouldn't have had the time to attend regular meetings in Maidstone either if they'd have won.

    2. Who said anything about not having time. I own a perfectly functioning phone and Internet connection.

    3. So if you won you'd just sit at home on the internet instead of attending meetings...

  6. UKIP got in without even trying, here in Thanet we have ended up with seven old duffers elected because of the crazy Labour immigration policies and the useless Tory economic policy.

The UKIP councillors will now sit around a table at KCC discussing transport, health and education! For the Conservatives it's a disaster and has scuppered any lingering hopes of a 2015 election win. The knives will be out for David Cameron.

The Lib Dems are all but finished and Labour is probably looking at a small majority at the next general election with UKIP becoming the third major party.

    1. In your dreams, Anon 8:14. It was a bigger disaster for Labour who should have done far better mid term through a parliament. Incidentally, you should have said disastrous Labour economic policies and Conservative failure to grip the immigration shambles they inherited. Either way round, neither party comes up smelling of roses.

UKIP will probably dip come a general election and the Lib/Dems will win more parliamentary seats than them as, if you bother to look, they have more county councillors.

    2. Remember a few years back when all the main parties suddenly adopted “green” policies because they knew it was a vote winner? Well now they’ll all start looking into immigration for the same reason.

    2. About 24 I think, I wonder how many Conservative votes were lost by not accepting that at this age a large proportion of the population have been voting for six years and I guess in industry, commerce, education etc someone of 24 is just another adult.

    3. It is not about age but maturity and experience, both of which are sadly lacking in this case whereas there are nineteen year old Afghanistan veterans strong on both.

  10. So it turns out that those listening to Ian Driver....were the seagulls....

When I saw him on his soap box on Ramgsgate seafront....I thought what a ....k

And it would seem that I wasnt the only one who took away this impression of him

    2. What a pleasure to see the mouth rejected. After all the noise about how people responbded to his message down in Ramsgate, although the photos always suggested otherwise, the truth is out. No doubt he will now join UKIP as the new trendy bandwagon.

    3. I promised Ian I would deliver more leaflets in his latest campaign to become Prime Minister.

At least their is a bit more time to plan for that one......

    4. So it was your fault, SG, that the Ramsgate messiah was not elected. At least county hall will be a more peaceful place as a result and may just be able to get on with the business of running the county rather than having meetings interupted with stunts all the time. Mind you, Thanet will seem a bit tame without Christine popping up with her camera and swastika all over the place. In fairness, the old dear did wonders for Roger Latchford's campaign helping him secure the biggest percentage of the vote anywhere in Thanet.

    5. Maybe they were horrified when they clicked onto Ian's blogsite and saw a local gay "pressure" group?

      Didn't stop them looking though......

    6. Prove either of those allegations, SG. You are becoming as obsessed with homophobia as Worrow.

      Delete
    7. Allegations? Oh here we go again......

Can we have that online shrink back on please?

      Delete
    8. SG, you are far too touchy. You said that people were put off Driver because of the link to a "gay" group but they looked anyway. All I asked was could you prove either of those assertions. If Driver had been a good candidate I would certainly not be put off him because of any link on his sidebar and I am sure that applies to most people. Why can't you just be a person without the silly label. After all, I do not call myself 'The Lone Hetro' because there is actually a bit more to being a human than what sex you are.

    9. 10.29 (and assume you are also 9.44)

You made what I thought was quite a witty remark about me putting off voters?

Now, as I think I am a rather lovely person, the only other reason I could think of was of because of my "group" linked to Ian, ("dogging" at Winterstoke etc presumably? and gay "pressure"?).

But hey ho, Ian achieved 500+ solid votes out of love despite his obvious shortcomings, and despite voters having more urgent considerations. I did actually bother to speak to some Northward Ward residents as I went round....

  11. I like some of the things Driver does (and I dislike other things), but I believe that local people are just sick to death of what they see as publicity stunts. That's why I'm especially pleased to see Roger Latchford receive a massive 47% of the votes in Birchington after Tongue, Worrow & The Fat Bloke tried - and failed miserably - to make him look bad.

I'm sure that this will receive comment from Worrow and/or Driver:

"Mr Latchford also said that he hoped to work towards a repeal of the vote on gay marriage."

    2. Thanks Peter I will put something on the blog.

  12. Latchford is still a Tory and history shows us that people who switch parties switch back when it suits them. I was ecstatic to see Trevor Shonk getting so many votes. He's a real voice for ordinary people and, having obtained the most votes of any candidate, I hope Trevor will be appointed to lead the UKIP contingent.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I have had a lot to do with Trevor, and think he will be very good for the Ramsgate community. Although personally I am not a trending UKIP supporter, I am also pleased to hear about Roger Latchrord and Zita Wiltshire being successful as they are both lovely people with much experience.

Comments, since I started writing this blog in 2007 the way the internet works has changed a lot, comments and dialogue here were once viable in an open and anonymous sense. Now if you comment here I will only allow the comment if it seems to make sense and be related to what the post is about. I link the majority of my posts to the main local Facebook groups and to my Facebook account, “Michael Child” I guess the main Ramsgate Facebook group is We Love Ramsgate. For the most part the comments and dialogue related to the posts here goes on there. As for the rest of it, well this blog handles images better than Facebook, which is why I don’t post directly to my Facebook account, although if I take a lot of photos I am so lazy that I paste them directly from my camera card to my bookshop website and put a link on this blog.
