  1. The Truth About Pleasurama

Some very malicious and libellious comments made on their website....

Lets hope they have some shred of evidence....

Proof or they may be visiting the High Court

    1. What evidence or proof would you suggest Anon? The points made seem perfectly fine given the shennanigans at Pleasurama with tax havens and mystery Directors. Messrs Painter and Keegan could appear in public together and speak up on who did what and who from TDC was involved. And Messrs Samuel and White could be called back for their views. Certainly senior TDC officials and councillors seem to have done little to bring this matter into the open but Bayford and Hart must have views on this rather than silence.

    2. On this thread, 2:14, I would be more interested in their views on the Carnival Queens and the many other delightful entries in this years event. Perhaps you should be posting on 'The Truth About Pleasurama' website.

    3. I was replying to 10:42's comments about Pleasurama and libel etc. But let's discuss the Carnival Queens if you prefer.

    4. Simply making the point that Michael has gone to a lot of trouble to make available all these great photos of a good carnival day, where the young ladies are to be congratulated for becoming carnival queens and turning out so well for the occasion, as are all those people who worked so hard to put together the other entries and floats.

I usually attend the Ramsgate Carnival, but could not this year. Thus I am grateful to Michael for a chance to see the photos and all those happy smiling faces.

Just think it sad to spoil a cheery moment for Ramsgate by dragging up Pleasurama whoever started first. Wong time and wrong place.

    5. Maybe so but direct your comments at Pleasurama to them not me.

In terms of the carnival - and no disrespect to the young ladies - but I thought it was badly promoted by RTC and TDC and rather scruffy. Certainly not upto previous years and could be far better with Ramsgate's tax that has been spent on Margate by our councillors. Who voted to do that?

      Delete
    6. Anon 3:55pm,

I can agree that the Carnival was not well promoted. I only found out about it the day before and that was when I overheard someone talking about in a cafe.

    7. If even locals don't know the carnival is on then we're stuffed aren't we? I only realised on the day itself. I don't remember anything in the local newspapers and maybe a leaflet stuck to a lampost. Not very good for the new RTC clerks and a tourism dept at TDC.

Did the Dunkirk event even happen this year?

      Delete
    8. I knew about the carnival, which is around the same time every year, and I live in Broadstairs. No wonder everything seems to go wrong in Ramsgate if 4:48 is typical of its residents, even pouring gloom on a great day. Perhaps the promotion could have been better, particularly for those who want it shouted through their letter box, but it certainly was not scruffy. That is insulting to all those people who put in so much effort for the event. Shame on you 3.55, but what did you contribute apart from a whinge.

      Delete
    9. Honest feedback is my contribution 5:35. Weak promotion which you agree on. And a rather scruffy carnival - no disrespect to those taking part - that could be improved with better funding.

I'd like to know why Ramsgate councillors have been spending Ramsgate's tax in Margate. Presumably the same has happened with Broadstairs' tax?

The only insult was your feeble attempt to twist my words. And you too seem to have forgotten Dunkirk.

      Delete
    10. No, my uncle was in the ring protecting the beach and was taken prisoner at Dunkirk so I would hardly forget. I am not sure where I heard it, but I seem to recall something about last year being the final marking of the evacuation with the small boats crossing to Ramsgate due to a combination of the ages of the craft and participants.

      Perhaps Michael knows more?

On Ramsgate Councillors spending Ramsgate tax in Margate, I am afraid I cannot help. There would be a Ramsgate precept within the council tax, which would be exclusively for the use of RTC, otherwise it is down to TDC's budget for the whole of Thanet. Also, you should remember that much of the tax goes to KCC and Kent Police.

      Delete
    11. In the carnival wasn't there a TDC float on "bribes for cash" or something?

7:26 seems to be confused on tax: Ramsgate's counci. tax is raised for Ramsgate. It's administered by TDC and RTC is a new organisation also funded form tax. No explanation is given as to where Ramsgate's £20M has been spent and if it is on Margate?

It seems that TDC have been slicing up the tax to fund civil servant salaries and pensions and Margate's regeneration - due to Margate's political leadership ie first Ezekiel and now Hart?

      Delete
    12. Total cobblers, 9:51, raising the question, do you actually pay council tax. If you did, you would be aware from the accompanying leaflet how the tax is split to pay for KCC, Kent Police, TDC and the Ramsgate precept.

      Delete
    13. Yes 10:53 I do pay tax and understand the split of it hence the points at 9:51 are correct. perhaps you can explain why they are cobblers though? Of TDC's c.£60M Ramsgate pays about £20M. The RTC precept tax of c.£300k is funded from the TDC budget too.

      Delete
    14. Clearly you do not understand, 11:52, but just to prove me wrong, how much of Ramsgate's £20m goes to KCC and Kent Police and how much is left to maintain services in Thanet? As for the Ramsgate precept, that is set by RTC for use exclusively by RTC.

      Delete
    15. I'm sorry 3:58 you've ignored my point which asked you to confirm which parts of the tax costs I'd detailed were cobblers?

You can answer your own point on KCC etc too.

You're slightly incorrect in that the RTC tax is set by RTC - but it is drawn from the TDC funds rather than raised direct.

      Delete
    16. So you simply do not know what you are talking about 10:25 so you try to throw the question back. As ever with you, everything seems to spout from the wrong orifice.

      Delete
    17. No 6:14 I am completely correct in my previous post and have rebutted your comments on TDC tax budgets/costs. You are talking cobblers on the tax and relying on mere insult again. Read my posts and answer the posts therein if you can.

    18. Was there a "TDC bribes" float in the carnival

Great photos, Michael, lovely day and lots of happy looking people. Not sure what this post has to do with Pleasurama but that's Thanet blogging I guess.

    1. Allan I think the point that I am failing to get across is that it isn’t people commenting off thread that I, and I think most readers have a problem with, it’s the non commercial spam comments.

What I am talking about here are a few individuals that wish to take over the local blogging scene with their own very narrow agendas, which makes reading the local blogs akin to being constantly bombarded with offers to obtain redress for loan insurance.

Of course we would all like a payment from our bank and it may be true that we are owed one, but being continually bombarded by phone calls telling us this is boring.

Having the non commercial spammers engaged in conversations with themselves and others hoping that they will go away is equally boring and ultimately self defeating.

Michael, simply wondered how Pleasurama featured in a cheerful item with photos about the Ramsgate Carnival, but absolutely no intention in engaging in a conversation with anyone about it on this thread. Indeed, for me, Pleasurama has dragged on so long that, short of some new and dramatic development, it is about as exciting as the 6th Thanet Range.

  3. I went along to see and took a few pictures. The Carnival Queens looked oh so young. Or is it just that I'm getting old. Never mind, all looked happy to be there and this was good.

  5. Talking of Carnivals and fun: I've only just discovered this Dreamland site. I wish the project well. I believe that many people will come to see and try these rides.

    1. I wish them luck too, but personally I can't see this "heritage rides" thing working. It might appeal to people who remember those rides first time around, but the vast majority of potential fairground ride users tend to be younger people who want the more modern and thrilling rides.

      Delete
    2. I think, Peter, to some extent it comes down to what is available. The more modern white knuckle rides tend to be at places like Alton Towers, expensive entry and, for most, involving a journey. On the other hand, travelling fairs, featuring much smaller, transportable and traditional rides, still do OK. Probably, if there was a fairground in Margate people visiting would use it just because it is there.

Nonetheless, like you, I doubt people would make a special journey for a day out at the proposed Dreamland themed park like they would, say, for Thorpe Park. Still, got to be better than the present abandoned wasteland.

    3. Selling nostalgia, even to the young, can be profitable. Though I agree that on its own this will not appeal to many as a venue for a holiday or even a day out. But it might appeal as one of several attractions that Thanet has to offer?

      Delete
    4. Epps selling us short on the potential for Dreamland I see. Quite how the thousands of people that Dreamland previously would not do so again is simply down the rides and marketing of the site. A few stale pensioners rattling their dentures in their empty heads before the Grim Reaper comes a-calling are of no use to New Thanet. I'd pay to see a Thanet Museum of Corruption though. What would the exhibits be?

    5. Before and after payslips for the 0% salaries fraud

      Delete
    6. If you are so young, 3:15, how come you can blog all day and even know about dentures. Strangely enough, I think if you read things properly, both Peter and William are supporting Dreamland though stressing it has to be different to the big theme parks so beloved of the young set. Rides for old gits like you and young families are probably the order of the day.

    7. Cllr Epps says: I doubt people would make a special journey for a day out at the proposed Dreamland themed park

Hardly supportive of the existing plans. He also rubbishes Alton Towers so really has no opinion at all. Like you.

My view is hat the existing plans are half-arsed simply using available tat and pretending they're heirlooms of amusements.

It should be either modern rides ie a small Alton Towers (as it often has been) - or a stronger option would be a proper heritage park with Victorian rides etc etc.

      Delete
    8. Where did I rubbish Alton Towers, 6:07, and whilst doubting that Dreamland in isolation would attract people from further afield it could as part of a range of facilities.

      Delete
    9. Cllr Epps you say: "places like Alton Towers, expensive entry and, for most, involving a journey".

You're becoming both pointless and expensive as a councillor - and as you cited with the 0% fraud why are you speaking about Dreamland: it's nothing to do with Broadstairs or BTC is it?

      Delete
    10. Alton Towers is expensive and does for many involve a journey. Nonetheless it has the range of attractions in a very large acreage to draw people in from afar. Dreamland is a very small site, not big enough to compete with the likes of Alton or Thorpe but, as I have already said, could be an added attraction as part of a range of things to do in Margate.

Whether I am pointless or not as a councillor is a matter for the electorate in my own ward, but I do not use the title councillor here. I am simply expressing an opinion on issues, like any other blogger, as an individual and prefer to use my own name. It is you that keeps bringing in the council bit and all this tea and biscuit nonsense. Perhaps I should become anonymous like you.

      Delete
    11. So you were rubbishing Alton Towers but now expensive is OK and travelling from afar is good too? Presumably as competition to Dreamland then?

So you're not posting as a councillor for BTC? OK what do you think of the Ferrygate and 0% corruption at TDC? Or even missing another Summer in opening Dreamland?

But if you are posting as a councilor, as you sometimes do, how would you raise and improve these issues at BTC or with TDC?

      Delete
    12. When did I ever post as Cllr Epps, 8:41? On council issues I have already invited you to email me. Here I comment my own opinions on the issues raised in Michael's postings. I stress they are personal opinions, not those of the BTC, TDC or any political party, just mine if you are capable of taking that on board.

By the way, weren't you supposed to be reporting me to standards? I am still waiting with bated breath and trembling knees. Why not be a hero for once and put your money where your mouth is!

      Delete
    13. You often post on council issues Cllr Epps. I must say I always find it funny when the politicians pop up and are then at great pains to point out their opinions are their own. Then why join a party and sit on BTC?

You've ignored the questions on Ferrygate and 0% corruption or Dreamland again haven't you?

Not me and reporting you to standards: must be someone else who finds you pointless and expensive.

      Delete
    14. Anonymous 10:16 am,

You class others as expensive. I was wondering, are you on benefits?

      Delete
    15. Anon 10:16, you have just amply illustrated why it is a waste of time engaging with anonymous contributors. It is impossible to know who you are, you can too easily wriggle on things you have written before and lie to suit yourself as with now denying, on the one hand, your threat to report me to standards yet, on the other, restating questions on 0% and Ferrygate that you asked at that time. For that reason I shall not respond to your comments again.

      Delete
    16. 10:16

Why should serving as a councillor or joining a party deny anyone the right to opinions of their own? Do you speak for all that are anonymous for that is the group to which you choose to belong?

As for people ignoring your pet issues, maybe that is because you have kept on about them too often and ignored or ridiculed responses even when given.

Comments, since I started writing this blog in 2007 the way the internet works has changed a lot, comments and dialogue here were once viable in an open and anonymous sense. Now if you comment here I will only allow the comment if it seems to make sense and be related to what the post is about. I link the majority of my posts to the main local Facebook groups and to my Facebook account, “Michael Child” I guess the main Ramsgate Facebook group is We Love Ramsgate. For the most part the comments and dialogue related to the posts here goes on there. As for the rest of it, well this blog handles images better than Facebook, which is why I don’t post directly to my Facebook account, although if I take a lot of photos I am so lazy that I paste them directly from my camera card to my bookshop website and put a link on this blog.
