Acol Art Group Exhibition at the York Street Gallery in Ramsgate.

This one is definitely worth a look at as you can hopefully see from the pictures of the pictures which should expand when clicked on.

  1. Interesting meeting at the red hall last night. With Ian Driver & Will Scobie on the panel discussing "The Green Isle", fracking, Manston Airport, Manston Green house build, and UKIP amongst other subjects.

When the conversation turned to UKIP it was obvious no one in the room was happy with the Purple revolution however Will gave an interesting slant saying the representation from Thanet was difficult when you are outnumbered 7 - 1.

The conversation turned to cries for an effective opposition in KCC against the Tories which was interesting as both Bayford & Wise were strangely present at the rear of the room (didn't know they were socialist?) and then when a member of the audience asked the panel when they expected an effective opposition at TDC the look of their faces was a picture. Bet they were glad they came.

  2. All very interesting, 9:58, but what has it to do with an art exhibition?

As you have raised it, however, I should point out that Christine Tongue has always maintained that these meetings at the Red Hall are open to all so why do you think they are the exclusive domain of socialists. But for the EU referendum debate in the Commons, Laura Sandys would have been on the panel, by invitation, but perhaps you think such should be, rather like the BBC Question Time, little knock the Tories and UKIP gatherings. See you enjoyed sitting with your back to the panel watching the faces of Bob Bayford and Martin Wise. Well they are a handsome couple I would have to agree.

Back on thread, Michael, as ever great photos and, by the look of it, some excellent paintings.

  3. 9.58 am

You seem to be suggesting that all the people present, apart from Messrs. Bayford and Wise, were socialists. If so, why do you want an effective opposition at TDC? Surely you can trust your own beloved party under the capable leadership of Comrades Hart and Poole to deliver without the nasty Tories opposing them all the time. Maybe you do not think they are not left wing enough and would prefer someone like Brother Driver running the show.

  4. Cllr did I say where I was sitting. Why do you jump to conclusions so quickly?

    1. You said that Cllrs Bayford and Wise were at the rear so, in order to see their faces you would presumably had to have looked back at them. If you were in the same row, a sideways glance would have only given a profile view of one of them. Elementary really, Watson.

    3. So you were on the panel. Still does not explain your rather childish pleasure at what you perceived as the discomfort of a couple of Tories. Do you really think two experienced campaigners like them are not thick skinned enough to be bothered by a bunch of anoraks calling for a more effective opposition at TDC. As for them being there, well no harm in knowing what the other side are up to, is there?

    4. Difficult to have an effective opposition when some TDC cllr's are prepared to align their votes to whomever will ingratiate them with with what they view as prestigious appointments within the TDC structure, from whence they can attempt to further their own agenda's

    5. The attitude of the anon at 9.58 seems to be designed to negate all Christine's efforts to make her meetings more inclusive. Having repeatedly said that the Red Hall Question Times are open to all, how must Christine feel when she finally gets a couple of Conservatives along only to see them made fun of on a blog the next day by one of the, dare I say it, usual suspects. Not likely to encourage those from the other side of centre along in future.

    6. Or the anon might be trying to highlight the lack of effective opposition from the Tory Cabinet. Do not see much Tory commentary in the press or on blogs about issues in Thanet like The Pavilion or Pleasurama. Doesn't seem to be many press releases nor a website blog to view their thoughts.

    7. Nor much from any other political party other than this week's Green councillor. Currently the only other councillor regularly posting on his own blog is a Conservative, Simon Moores on Thanet Life. Where are all the Labour ones, 2.31?

    8. 2:31, I had already dealt with that point about opposition back at 11:18. Please try to stay with the thread and apply some grey matter.

    9. Ken Gregory has started posting regularly again, something I welcome.

Changing the subject completely, has John Worrow said anything since the Gazette article last week?

    10. Not seen anything anywhere from that source, Peter, so he is probably exercising his right to remain silent. Makes a pleasant change instead of shouting, so long may it continue.

    11. anon 2:56 seems they issue press releases attacking a ratepayer over the Pavilion. why would they need a blog if they use the resources of the TDC press office

    12. Cllr Epps describes the public as a bunch of anoraks?

    13. Epps is ruining this blog why must he post on everything with either foolish views or tory party propaganda

    14. Do tory cabinet issue press releases?

    15. Not you 8:03, you're just a woolly hat! With a silly bobble on top!

    16. So Anonymous Tim, you make one liner silly comments adding nothing to the discussion and then accuse me of ruining the blog. If you bothered to check, at least my comments were in response to points raised by others which is what debate is supposed to be about. You just ask pointless questions or criticise others for contributing. You often say it is time for change on your blog or twitter and you are right. It is time you changed the record.

    17. Who said it's Tim, William. Many of us are bored with your incessant posting. Why not stick to one post a day and concentrate on the council work you are paid for such as Thor? Your posts are mainly insults and make you look foolish anyway.

    18. You gave it away again, Tim, by mentioning Thor. Nobody else is bothered.

Comments, since I started writing this blog in 2007 the way the internet works has changed a lot, comments and dialogue here were once viable in an open and anonymous sense. Now if you comment here I will only allow the comment if it seems to make sense and be related to what the post is about. I link the majority of my posts to the main local Facebook groups and to my Facebook account, “Michael Child” I guess the main Ramsgate Facebook group is We Love Ramsgate. For the most part the comments and dialogue related to the posts here goes on there. As for the rest of it, well this blog handles images better than Facebook, which is why I don’t post directly to my Facebook account, although if I take a lot of photos I am so lazy that I paste them directly from my camera card to my bookshop website and put a link on this blog.
