Replace the 1960s railings along the cliff top with something that matches the historical period of the old light fixtures (see your last photo, with old ironwork and new railings).
2. Replace the tall lamp-posts on the cliff top path, introduced in the 1980s, with shorter, more traditional designs like the original old gas lamps (that they took away in the 1980s). Lower, more frequent, lamp-posts give a more intimate feeling and should be able to be made vandle-proof. The economy of tall less frequent lamp-posts is a petty advantage in such a beautiful location seen by so many people. The worst tall lamp posts are on the pier, where the little 'historic' glass box fixtures look ridiculous on the top of tall masts.
3. The 'security' lights on the pier that illuminate the moored boats are also worth investment: at present they are pointed towards the cliff top path (near Chiapinni's), so at night anyone looking from the cliff towards the harbour is dazzled by them. Build proper masts and fixtures to illuminate the boats from directly above, or from the direction of the cliff, and you would turn them into a beautiful night time feature that people would love to look at. The dazzling lights there now discourage people from looking in that direction, and are thus less effective as security for the boats.Michaelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17996759145644373272noreply@blogger.com
