Thanet District Council Tweet council meeting and some Sandwich few photos

I have tried embedding the council's tweeting activities here, don't know if it will work, if it will update or anything like that

apparently it doesn't, perhaps this will

Cllr. Harry Scobie elected as new Vice Chairman of Thanet District Council

the council's tweeting of the meeting seems to have stopped, here is the Gazette's

The usual busman’s holiday today, buying books in Sandwich; I also took some photos for this blog post.

  1. I was also in Sandwich today (I passed through it twice during a cycle ride to St. Margaret's-at-Cliffe and back), a wonderful town!

  2. Wow, looks like (nearly) all of the local Tories have just had a tantrum and thrown all of their toys out of the pram! So much for Will Scobie "lacking maturity", eh Simon?

  3. Who were the two Tory cllrs who had the dignity to stay?

Not really about dignity, 9:02, but very childish behaviour by the current leadership. Elected councillors should serve on committees and it is partly what they are remunerated for with their allowances. To remove them for offences which have been dealt with and do not disbar them from holding office is indeed petty. A walk out was really the only option to show contempt for this action.

More worryingly, and despite Hart's oft repeated assurances of working together, this serves to reinforce the image that TDC is totally divided along political tribal lines and is incapable of serving us as a properly functioning administration.

    2. Hart is usually criticised for being "weak", now at last it seems he's doing what he should've done months ago! Like it or not, what people do in their private lives DOES reflect badly on TDC. I just hope that all those who walked out of the meeting get some of their allowances stopped, just as anyone in the real world would have their wages stopped (or possibly even lose their jobs) if they did the same! Well done to Wells & Wise for staying.

Simon Moores once again is proving the biggest hypocrite of the lot, after implying several months ago that Shirley Tomlinson should resign, yet now he's supposedly walking out in support of her, as well as continuingly stirring up bad feeling by publicly ridiculing cllrs (Scobie, Worrow, etc) on his blog. So much for "working together"!

I think the issue is that Tomlinson and Gregory are still councillors and their offences do not ban them for serving. Gregory was even cleared by the council's own internal disciplinary machinery as the act was in his private capacity so, whilst I would agree with you that councillors private lives do impact on the reputation of the council, if they are still there then they should fulfill all their duties.

One might also ask why Mike Harrison was not so treated for his homophobic rant on his own blogsite for which he was warned. Without wishing to kick off again on degrees of offence there should be some consistency. This way it is too tribal.

Peter, I do agree with you that there is fault on all sides which is why I made my comment about the council being divided along party tribal lines. That is not in our best interests but to resolve it would take a quality of leadership that seems sadly lacking in Thanet.

  4. As ever, trying to enlighten Peter on allowances and responsibilities conjures visions of Blackadder attempting to teach Baldric to count.

    1. As ever, Old Moores still being ill-mannered and rude, just like he did last night when having one of his little tantrums and walking out of a meeting he was being paid to attend.

    2. And if I'm Baldric, then surely you're the blustering buffoon & sycophant Melchett?

  6. Couple of thoughts here. The first being anonymous comment by anyone claiming to Richard Card (or any other known blogger with a blogger account) – who has his own blogs and blogger accounts so any legitimate comment by them would appear as links to his account like mine, Simon Moores and Peter Checksfield’s do – is treated as spam here, so replying to it is a waste of time as the replies go with the spam. The other being, just what our own dear council are up to is beyond me. My guess is if what happened in the county elections is repeated in the TDC elections and the recent by-election, then all of our district councillors with the possible exception of Will Scobie will be replaced by UKIP councillors.

  7. Clive hasn't done anything in 2 years so the latest appointments are just the usual irrelevant shuffling of job titles. They can't do anything or they'd have done it by now.

Unfortunately UKIP are simply older Tories - usually with grudges such as Zita etc. Not exactly the Great White Hopes of Thanet.

Thanet politics has collapsed and taken the area with it.

  8. Who is TDC's new twitterer?

  9. Regardless of who is tweeting for @ThanetCouncil, at last some facts being communicated in real time instead of not at all.

    1. Except the tweeting stopped as soon as things got controversial (maybe one of the Tories who walked out was doing the tweeting?).

  10. Michael, congratulations on staying sane with all this political nonsense, I don't know how you manage it.
On another note, thank you for your new way of presenting your great photographs ... much better on my laptop than the previous full page displays. Oh yes! I reckon your painting and sketching is getting better too.
So well done on three counts. That's three more than ANY TDC councillor deserves for anything!

Comments, since I started writing this blog in 2007 the way the internet works has changed a lot, comments and dialogue here were once viable in an open and anonymous sense. Now if you comment here I will only allow the comment if it seems to make sense and be related to what the post is about. I link the majority of my posts to the main local Facebook groups and to my Facebook account, “Michael Child” I guess the main Ramsgate Facebook group is We Love Ramsgate. For the most part the comments and dialogue related to the posts here goes on there. As for the rest of it, well this blog handles images better than Facebook, which is why I don’t post directly to my Facebook account, although if I take a lot of photos I am so lazy that I paste them directly from my camera card to my bookshop website and put a link on this blog.
