It does all make one wonder about the relevance of local democracy.Michael Childhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09499435016469020417noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3575321478441277410.post-44119173162263713252010-10-18T19:46:36.299+01:002010-10-18T19:46:36.299+01:00Yes. It means the Council Planning Committee'...Yes. It means the Council Planning Committee's decision to reject planning permission has been overturned. Personally, I think it looks a lot better than what's there at present, but I think the Planning Committee should be entitled to reject it if parking space is insufficient. It's already a nightmare trying to park in that area.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3575321478441277410.post-44140142515108046572010-10-18T18:12:04.295+01:002010-10-18T18:12:04.295+01:00So, this is me being stupid here, but are they app...So, this is me being stupid here, but are they appealing against the refusal of permission? On ...I have mixed feelings about this development. On the downside, it gives quite a high density development with no parking and it will block the views from houses in Adelaide Gardens - on the other hand the building does look like quite a good design and replaces what is currently rather an untidy plot of land.

There was always a high chance that this might be overturned on appeal, as the planning committee had overruled the views of their own planning department. It's best for the planning committee to give a very strong planning justification for their decision if they do this.

Planning committees are quasi-judicial bodies. If there was no planning inspectorate, then the decisions could ultimately still be challenged by judicial review.Geraldnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3575321478441277410.post-69167901834061070992010-10-18T17:50:58.723+01:002010-10-18T17:50:58.723+01:00Personally I can't see anything wrong with thi...Personally I can't see anything wrong with this development, but this episode begs the question "why do we bother to elect representatives?"

Yet again the establishment overrules the electorate.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3575321478441277410.post-19775660213065020962010-10-18T17:18:25.200+01:002010-10-18T17:18:25.200+01:00I can't believe anyone would object to this!
