Silt was still deposited up upstream the these blocks without any membrane being installed, but the capture zone needed to be kept clear by regular use of a sluice. Care was needed in running this sluice because of the downstream damage which it could cause.

anon 4:54Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3575321478441277410.post-8254925292826912882012-08-09T10:22:27.361+01:002012-08-09T10:22:27.361+01:00Michael a couple of comments.

Somehow the sand proof membrane got left out of this construction so the sand come in through the walls.

In retrospect a piled concrete filled arm would probably have been a cheaper and better solution.

I also wonder if anyone has checked where the dredged sand is being dumped to ensure that this isn’t where the current flows towards the harbour from bringing the sand back.

The design of the harbour was such that the head of water in the inner basin was used to flush the sand out, but the sluices have been allowed to decay.Michael Childhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09499435016469020417noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3575321478441277410.post-74953297695197306782012-08-08T16:54:14.599+01:002012-08-08T16:54:14.599+01:00But a radar system used for developing and testing...But a radar system used for developing and testing the latest technology, which the harbour port control gets to use for free, would be a good reason to keep dredging the outer harbour.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3575321478441277410.post-22900662294072705592012-08-08T16:30:46.312+01:002012-08-08T16:30:46.312+01:00On top of the café is port control, without radar ...On top of the café is port control, without radar no boats, no boats no fees, no fees no harbour.Michael Childhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09499435016469020417noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3575321478441277410.post-3351385501416116332012-08-08T14:48:02.753+01:002012-08-08T14:48:02.753+01:00The way the sand is encroaching into the outer har...The way the sand is encroaching into the outer harbour it will soon be like Broadstairs and the Radar will not be needed, our own dredger that the council in their wisdom sold has been revamped and is still a very usefull piece of floating plant.
StargazerAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3575321478441277410.post-49001486655804157442012-08-08T09:37:04.667+01:002012-08-08T09:37:04.667+01:00I have a really good idea, lets try and lease out ...I have a really good idea, lets try and lease out the cafe at the sametime as applying for planning permission to put a monstrosity of a radar tower on top of the cafe- wow that is joined up thinking for TDC. { I am only suprised that they didn't apply for permission to put it on the sundeck }Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3575321478441277410.post-60053381942777159652012-08-08T07:58:30.914+01:002012-08-08T07:58:30.914+01:00Natural selection Michael, the bright ones will on...Natural selection Michael, the bright ones will only dive a couple of hours either side of high water.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3575321478441277410.post-57285836638960986022012-08-08T07:57:15.634+01:002012-08-08T07:57:15.634+01:00blood money from the export of innocent animals sh...blood money from the export of innocent animals shame on you thanet district council shame on you.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3575321478441277410.post-43757783616508216662012-08-07T17:16:58.608+01:002012-08-07T17:16:58.608+01:00Isn’t that a bit harsh on local teenagers consider...Isn’t that a bit harsh on local teenagers considering it dries out on both sides here at low tide.Michael Childhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09499435016469020417noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3575321478441277410.post-90531208217777831092012-08-07T13:53:26.523+01:002012-08-07T13:53:26.523+01:00Perhaps they could be persuaded to put a couple of...Perhaps they could be persuaded to put a couple of diving boards on the seaward side, a touch of olympic sustainability for the local teenagers.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3575321478441277410.post-8051620137681679282012-08-06T20:26:02.277+01:002012-08-06T20:26:02.277+01:00I wonder how they will get it up there, as an engi...I wonder how they will get it up there, as an engineer Michael you will interested in their load test procedure.
