Doorstep learning for Newington and Whitehall

Thanet district Council press release

A new pilot programme, aiming at offering free learning opportunities to residents on the Newington and Whitehall estates in Ramsgate, is being launched next week (Tuesday 13 January).

The Newington and Whitehall Doorstep Learning Programme will be launched at a fun afternoon event at the Newington Community Centre on Tuesday 13 January between 2.30pm and 5.00pm, where children can have their face painted.

The programme is organised by Thanet District Council, Kent County Council, Amicus Horizon and Orbit Housing Associations, Thanet College and the Learning and Skills Council and offers a range of free courses in venues in Newington during school time. Thanet District Council has worked with the Learning and Skills Council to access the funding for this programme.

Courses available include cooking on a budget, food hygiene, personal budgeting and money management and computing for absolute beginners.

People can also undertake courses that will enable them to help support community sports programmes and understand children’s learning. This course is equivalent to a Learning Support Assistant level 1, which can be used to apply for positions or volunteer at local schools.

Comments, since I started writing this blog in 2007 the way the internet works has changed a lot, comments and dialogue here were once viable in an open and anonymous sense. Now if you comment here I will only allow the comment if it seems to make sense and be related to what the post is about. I link the majority of my posts to the main local Facebook groups and to my Facebook account, “Michael Child” I guess the main Ramsgate Facebook group is We Love Ramsgate. For the most part the comments and dialogue related to the posts here goes on there. As for the rest of it, well this blog handles images better than Facebook, which is why I don’t post directly to my Facebook account, although if I take a lot of photos I am so lazy that I paste them directly from my camera card to my bookshop website and put a link on this blog.
