Ramsgate Maritime Museum progress

The good news is that they are still hoping to get the museum open for Easter.
The bad news is that the lease still hasn’t been agreed.
I had heard that it was signed on Monday, but this information is incorrect.
Sorry I put rather too many images in this post, perhaps someone could tell me which ones they would like removed in the comments.

  1. TDC seem to have something of a problem with indecision over leases. First it was Broadstairs Community Centre, then Margate Football Club and now the Ramsgate Maritime Museum. At least each town seems to get its turn in experiencing their indecisiveness.

Think all the pictures are great.

  2. Tom I gather the council officers produced a map that wasn’t acceptable to the land registry, which has now been changed to an OS one and the council officers are now just finalising the historic ships moorings with the harbour master and that should be it. Still very much aiming for Easter opening, several other council leases in Ramsgate that have related to long term empty buildings have just gone through or are on the point of clearing. But as you say the council can be indecisive as I believe we were in pretty much the same situation with the maritime museum this time last year, so it's fingers crossed.

  3. As regards the pictures, how far down Military Road did the tramway siding extend?

  4. Tramman I have put a detail from the 1907 1923 survey in the post, this is the only os map that I know of that shows the harbour siding and I think this is a far as it ever extended, hope that helps.

    1. Is it a tramway or was it for harbour locomotives and cranes ?

    1. I do have some of their advertising material somewhere, I will find it eventually but am pretty certain that some of the trams turned round there so they would have needed this short siding to let by the ones that were going on pass them.

I also have seen a picture of a tram waiting on this siding somewhere, I think so will try and find that too.

Comments, since I started writing this blog in 2007 the way the internet works has changed a lot, comments and dialogue here were once viable in an open and anonymous sense. Now if you comment here I will only allow the comment if it seems to make sense and be related to what the post is about. I link the majority of my posts to the main local Facebook groups and to my Facebook account, “Michael Child” I guess the main Ramsgate Facebook group is We Love Ramsgate. For the most part the comments and dialogue related to the posts here goes on there. As for the rest of it, well this blog handles images better than Facebook, which is why I don’t post directly to my Facebook account, although if I take a lot of photos I am so lazy that I paste them directly from my camera card to my bookshop website and put a link on this blog.
