Margate and Cliftonville a few pictures and ramble.

The pen and ink sketch is of Margate Dinghy Club, I didn’t have very long it’s the school holidays, I am a bit irritated by it as I think the building in the middle should have one more window on the front.

I had intended to have a ploughman’s at the Puffin Café on the harbour arm, but it had just changed hands and they were painting it so I went to the supermarket and got a sandwich.

When I got to the bin to throw the wrapper away it was locked, so you couldn’t put any rubbish in it, this seemed a bit strange to me.

The rest of the pictures are at http://www.michaelsbookshop.com/laptop812/ I May add some more to this later.
The lido is in a pretty sorry state.
It was good to see that it is getting a coat of paint, and one wonders what the future for this vast and partly underground complex could be.
I used to work there, long ago, I think the red tiles on the lido are asbestos which may make some think about the potential problems in sorting the complex out.
There is a fair next to The Winter Gardens £1 per ride, which may interest some people.

The council/liquidator sold the site about a year ago. Yet again another developer plans to build unsuitable residential apartments with a goal to bring the listed original baths back to life at a later date in order to attract a hotel developer... The unlisted younger leisure facilities on site from 1920 onwards, most likely including the destroyed outdoor pool would removed, particularly if asbestos does turn up. It didn't help that the council removed a lot of the architectural features in the late 1990s, including Tony Savage's organ stage on the sun terrace and most of the lamp fittings plus the theatre of course - now a car park. Listing of the later development of the site even including the current iconic chimney was denied.

    1. After my experiences with the Pleasurama site in Ramsgate I would recommend asking the initial question have “Kent and Sussex Property Development (KSPD)” ever built another development, do they have a website?

    2. I cannot find anything about them. Perhaps KSPD is a Thanet bloke with a brother in Brighton.

Comments, since I started writing this blog in 2007 the way the internet works has changed a lot, comments and dialogue here were once viable in an open and anonymous sense. Now if you comment here I will only allow the comment if it seems to make sense and be related to what the post is about. I link the majority of my posts to the main local Facebook groups and to my Facebook account, “Michael Child” I guess the main Ramsgate Facebook group is We Love Ramsgate. For the most part the comments and dialogue related to the posts here goes on there. As for the rest of it, well this blog handles images better than Facebook, which is why I don’t post directly to my Facebook account, although if I take a lot of photos I am so lazy that I paste them directly from my camera card to my bookshop website and put a link on this blog.
