MCF British Beach Cross Championships at Ramsgate This Weekend and some thoughts about promoting tourism in Thanet.

I just went out for my lunch break which started with what Rooks call a sausage in a roll and to me is best described an extra large hot dog which at £1.99 represents very good value in term of an eat as you walk lunch.

When I got down to Ramsgate Sands I was quite surprised to find a beach cross event in progress, there seemed to be very few spectators and absolutely no publicity, no posters no banners and virtually no spectators.

I will ramble on here but had better get this up in case anyone is wondering about free events on locally this weekend.

What happened to the banners that usually adorn the harbour railings the posters in the shops around the town and the flyers seems to be down to TDC and its incredible tourist machine or down to Ramsgate Town Council and their incredible tourist machine.

Were posters printed, if so where did they go?

Is this down to Labour, generally perceived as running both councils?

Is this down to TIG who hold the balance of power?

Something similar happened last year see http://thanetonline.blogspot.co.uk/2011/10/ramsgate-beach-cross-and-whats-on-in.html

    1. Probably TDC were afraid to publicise it in case the usual suspects objected to the noise and pollution it might cause. Then again, it could just be the usual cock up that seems to be the norm for our illustrious District Council. Maybe RTC should have dealt with it themselves and, with localism in voque at this time, maybe they should demand more powers and local responsibility. As with the EU, kick big brother TDC bureaucrats into touch I say, but, silly me, most of RTC are big brother TDC bureaucrats as well.

  4. It's RTC that has help put a stop to the Harbour having one of the most modern radar systems in the country, by lodging an objection to the Planning Commitee. Local responsibility like that I think we can do without.

    1. I was being cynical, Tony, having little faith in any of them at any level.

Comments, since I started writing this blog in 2007 the way the internet works has changed a lot, comments and dialogue here were once viable in an open and anonymous sense. Now if you comment here I will only allow the comment if it seems to make sense and be related to what the post is about. I link the majority of my posts to the main local Facebook groups and to my Facebook account, “Michael Child” I guess the main Ramsgate Facebook group is We Love Ramsgate. For the most part the comments and dialogue related to the posts here goes on there. As for the rest of it, well this blog handles images better than Facebook, which is why I don’t post directly to my Facebook account, although if I take a lot of photos I am so lazy that I paste them directly from my camera card to my bookshop website and put a link on this blog.
