I become a little camp and don’t get time to blog about Manston Airport

Here in the bookshop one of my duties as a shop assistant is window dressing, in any business there is a key book and a key film or TV series, on the far or humorous side.

When I was in the monkey business I guess the book was Top Sacred and the film was Life of Brian. Now on the bookshop assistant front the book is obviously 84 Charring Cross Road, but after that it all rather falls to pieces as the funny books about bookshops are not really that funny and I am afraid on the movie front, the shop assistant takes over and it has to be, Are You Being Served.

When window has to be done it is the persona of Mr Humphries, possibly the most famous fictional window dresser of them all takes over and I rush around saying “I’m free” and so on.

Anyway what with one thing and the other I didn’t get time to do a blog post yesterday.

Here is the dressed window

Unfortunately as you see the other window is becoming undressed, because of people buying books from it.

Anyway at some time. Was it on Monday night and Tuesday morning? The SMA FaceBook group imploded, see https://www.facebook.com/groups/savemanstonairport

I think most of the committee either got sacked or resigned, word on the street is that someone may be going to sue someone for libel and as my solicitor charges me £195 + VAT per hour just to find out if this sort of action is likely to be valid, then I guess it is entirely possible that any committee could suddenly shrink.

A problem associated with the internet and just who is libelling who and what can be said safely, is that the sites where lots of different people can comment with some degree of anonymity – like this one – are relatively new and in many cases the law is still developing.

  1. reading some of the FB pages it seems the "original" committee of SMA have been evicted, they say Keith suspended the written constitution and is now threatening the old committee with legal action over the return of the "fighting fund". They on the other hand are saying that would be unconstitutional and possibly tantamount to theft. All very unseemly

  3. PO. This petition is at least three months old. I believe this to be a petition TO Sir Roger Gale and not by him, therefore Sir Roger is not asking TDC to spend money. And this might be a clue.
    To:
Sir Roger Gale, MP for Thanet North
    Laura Sandys, MP Thanet South
Thanet district council, Cllr Iris Johnston, Council Leader
Place a Compulsory Purchase Order on Manston Airport, Kent
    Sincerely,

  4. Barry, a very similar thing happened with the Margate Town Team. Why can't people just suppress their egos for the greater good of the community?

    1. There are no more team players. Look at England cricket and a well known South African born batsman. Having said that, the athletic teams in recent international events are proof of what a good team can do. It all comes down to leadership, but when a team is made up of volunteers, with no financial incentive, then egos tend to come to the fore rather than the good of the project. .

  5. Seems that there is much written concerning the "fighting fund"

Seems also AG is given 2 pages in Gazette today and what comes across is her lack of trust of Riveroak. Their offer wasn't credible and they have no track record in Airport management.

Comments, since I started writing this blog in 2007 the way the internet works has changed a lot, comments and dialogue here were once viable in an open and anonymous sense. Now if you comment here I will only allow the comment if it seems to make sense and be related to what the post is about. I link the majority of my posts to the main local Facebook groups and to my Facebook account, “Michael Child” I guess the main Ramsgate Facebook group is We Love Ramsgate. For the most part the comments and dialogue related to the posts here goes on there. As for the rest of it, well this blog handles images better than Facebook, which is why I don’t post directly to my Facebook account, although if I take a lot of photos I am so lazy that I paste them directly from my camera card to my bookshop website and put a link on this blog.
