Manston Airport night flights rears its head again

Back in February RiverOak told The Department for Transport that if they turn Manston into an airfreight hub there will possibly be some night flight.

“The night time curfew was discussed; RiverOak noted that night time landing is permitted if the planes have not been scheduled. RiverOak indicated that it was possible that some night flights would be required. RiverOak confirmed that noise control and mitigation would be a key part of their environmental study and consultation process.”

Now RiverOak have put up a statement about night flights on their website at http://www.riveroakinvestments.co.uk/riveroak-dispels-night-flight-myths/ saying:-

“RiverOak investments would like to dispel the myth that 18 flights a night are planned for Manston Airport under our proposals. The reference, which is being wilfully misused in media interviews, can be found on pages 134-5 of our Environmental Scoping report and relates purely to the accepted methodology for assessing the significance of noise disturbance at night and certainly not to any plans that we have for Manston Airport.

We know that the reintroduction of airport operations is of concern to some residents and so we are committed to being absolutely transparent at every stage of the DCO process to enable the community in East Kent to make informed decisions on our proposals. Indeed, it is for this reason that our environmental studies will be so thorough and will be published for consultation, along with all other aspects of our proposals, as soon as they are ready.

RiverOak Investments urges any local residents with questions about any aspect of our proposals to come along to our remaining informal consultation events this week, starting today in Herne Bay from 14.00-20.00 at the Kings Hall, to talk to members of our expert team, including Amec Foster Wheeler who are undertaking the environmental assessment.”

My take on this one is that what RiverOak have said to The DFT is likely to be the most realistic appraisal of what is likely to happen. With respect to RiverOak’s own website, it is a case of stuff there has gone up and subsequently been deleted.

The other issue that came up last time night flights were on the table is what time constitutes night time?

However this one pans out it will be noise and particulate air pollution that we need to keep an eye on.

With the RiverOak websites the American one has seen some changes in the last few days with managing director Tony Freudmann and some others vanishing along with Niall Lawlor and the rest of their press releases. So has all mention of their investment in European Airports, here is the link to their American website http://www.riveroakic.com/

Their uk website http://www.riveroakinvestments.co.uk/ seems now to be entirely about Manston and making me wonder if there is till any connection between the two companies.

  1. The international aviation standard for "night" is 2300-0700 - 11pm to 7am in old money. (Any talk of "shoulder periods" and suchlike is sly skullduggery.)

  2. someone has commented that Riveroak's website has been sanitised of references to Tony Freudmann. Now I cannot confirm as it's not somewhere I look at as it's basically an advert for an American Real Estate Company

  3. Barry I will add something about this to the post, I had to stop writing it in the shop as it got busy and so I didn't get as far as finishing it off and linking it to some of the facebook groups.

    1. Barry, Either you do not understand or affect not to understand what is going on with RO and Manston. Suffice to say that RO are not a real estate company. They are a private Equity Company. You are a leading member of the GMAS [great Manston airport sulk]

    2. as I said boredom must be a problem for you in your dotage. If RO have so much money its a shame they have to hire a volunteer from SMA to stop people from asking difficult questions. Seems Keith thinks it is ridiculous but then what else do you expect from a LLC who only have experience of distressed real estate.

  7. Barry, RO will hire the expertise that is how these things work. It's not that difficult to understand, Barry, do try to keep up.

Barry, On your further point has anyone stopped you from asking what you perceive to be difficult questions and what others perceive to be uninformed nonsense? Why do you persist in portraying yourself as a victim.

"Victim" now that is funny. Still you have a compliant audience on Hailer I'm sure you get a sense of pride from holding their attention however short that maybe. Have they given you a badge yet?

Comments, since I started writing this blog in 2007 the way the internet works has changed a lot, comments and dialogue here were once viable in an open and anonymous sense. Now if you comment here I will only allow the comment if it seems to make sense and be related to what the post is about. I link the majority of my posts to the main local Facebook groups and to my Facebook account, “Michael Child” I guess the main Ramsgate Facebook group is We Love Ramsgate. For the most part the comments and dialogue related to the posts here goes on there. As for the rest of it, well this blog handles images better than Facebook, which is why I don’t post directly to my Facebook account, although if I take a lot of photos I am so lazy that I paste them directly from my camera card to my bookshop website and put a link on this blog.
