Inside Granville tower in Ramsgate, graffiti, water tanks and the Otis Lift motor.

The tower on top of The Granville is one of the highest wosisnames in Ramsgate, I am not sure where the competition between St George’s, Kennedy, Trove would pan out.

The tower on the Granville was built to hold the water tanks for the various baths available in the spa there when it was an hotel. When it was first built it was a lot taller than it is now and the height was reduced in 1900, I guess this was to stop it from collapsing.

The tower was used as a wartime lookout – perhaps some of the graffiti certainly dates from WW2.

If you want to know more about the Granville I recommend coming to my bookshop on Ramsgate and browsing the two books about it, they are also available online at

and

Anyway here are some pictures of inside the tower.

For the dedicated followers of my bookshop, here is the link to the pictures of the books that went out on the shelves today http://michaelsbookshop.blogspot.co.uk/2017/03/magicians-in-bookshop.html

Comments, since I started writing this blog in 2007 the way the internet works has changed a lot, comments and dialogue here were once viable in an open and anonymous sense. Now if you comment here I will only allow the comment if it seems to make sense and be related to what the post is about. I link the majority of my posts to the main local Facebook groups and to my Facebook account, “Michael Child” I guess the main Ramsgate Facebook group is We Love Ramsgate. For the most part the comments and dialogue related to the posts here goes on there. As for the rest of it, well this blog handles images better than Facebook, which is why I don’t post directly to my Facebook account, although if I take a lot of photos I am so lazy that I paste them directly from my camera card to my bookshop website and put a link on this blog.
