Valentine's Day at the royal Victoria pavilion and banksy in Margate

 

This is my large ongoing watercolour painting from one of the seats in the Royal Victoria Pavilion. I haven't done much to it for quite a while but yesterday evening I had it with me and found myself sitting in the right seat to paint a bit more.

I guess everyone in Thanet watched the news of the Banksy painting in Margate unfolding yesterday. 

Michael's bookshop in Ramsgate which is where I work is closed on Tuesdays so we thought we would pop over to Margate and take some photos of the Banksy while it was still there.

By the time we got there are the council had removed quite a large chunk of it so like many other things related to the council it didn't make sense anymore.

I think I was more taken by the paintings being painted by an artist called Pete who was recording this artistic event unfolding.

Workwise I have been fairly busy with Michael's Bookshop where I work in Ramsgate, so not much internet activity, here is the link to the books we put out today  ironically we bought the book about banksy in Margate yesterday.

Old Thanet Pictures

 

 Starting with Ramsgate.The pier was built in 1879 and demolished in 1930. We publish a book about the pier

These three pictures show Ramsgate sands before 1860 when railway station was built on the site of the coastguard station and boatyards

This is Margate pier after the storm that finally demolished it in 1978

Sorry I haven't posted for a while I've rather gone off social media recently.

As you would expect, working here at Michael's Bookshop in Ramsgate, I have been reading a lot of books and not much in the way of phone or computer screens.

We have several new Thanet local history books at the editing stage of publication at the moment.

Work wise Michael's Bookshop here in Ramsgate has been steadily busy since Christmas with plenty of interesting titles coming in link to our new acquisitions blog

Sorry about the lack of posting it's been busy where I work at Michael's Bookshop in Ramsgate, but suddenly mid Christmas eve afternoon it has gone absolutely quiet giving me a chance to write this blog post.

Vintage Thanet from the air

 Most of the older aerial shots of Thanet date from in the 1920s and 30s. I think probably because aerial photography was something of a novelty back then.

Once again I'm a bit behind with my blog posting and Facebook linking. This is supposed I should put up on Monday afternoon but I'm publishing it just now Wednesday morning.

Hey where I work at Michael's bookshop in Ramsgate we have been busy with Christmas shopping. Well that's my excuse for being kind with things anyway.

Here at Michael's bookshop in Ramsgate we have been busy with people Christmas shopping.

Our Thanet local history books are holding up fairly well and I'm hoping to have pretty much all of them in stock through the week before Christmas.
