Another significant chemical pollution incident
It is not my intention to scaremonger here, but to add to my reasons why we should be considering our underground drinking water reservoir much more seriously, when planning future local development and expansion of existing enterprises.
Once again I am stressing that spillages and leaks into the ground are something that happens in industry, I know because I worked in industry.
Our underground drinking water reservoir is an essential local resource with out which we could not supply sufficient water to people’s homes, agriculture and industry.
The chalk under Thanet acts like a huge sponge where our water is collected and stored and bits of this sponge now has areas of poisoned water in it, the cumulate effect of the various poisoned areas will undoubtedly cause expense and problems for generations to come.
The proposed China Gateway development is a huge and very densely designed industrial estate, right in the middle of this reservoir very close to where our drinking water is pumped out of the ground.
Manston airport is also on top of the sensitive part of this reservoir, and if it is expanded so that there are a great many flights of very large planes, then it is probable that sooner or later there will be an air accident involving a large spillage of fuel or chemical cargo on the grassed part of the airport, which will soak into the ground.
Now while I am confident that Thanet District Council’s contaminated land team them are making sterling efforts to discover and cleanup previous and present pollution incidents, I think it is just plain stupid to take unnecessary risks with the water supply by carrying out perilous activities in the middle of the reservoir.

Comments, since I started writing this blog in 2007 the way the internet works has changed a lot, comments and dialogue here were once viable in an open and anonymous sense. Now if you comment here I will only allow the comment if it seems to make sense and be related to what the post is about. I link the majority of my posts to the main local Facebook groups and to my Facebook account, “Michael Child” I guess the main Ramsgate Facebook group is We Love Ramsgate. For the most part the comments and dialogue related to the posts here goes on there. As for the rest of it, well this blog handles images better than Facebook, which is why I don’t post directly to my Facebook account, although if I take a lot of photos I am so lazy that I paste them directly from my camera card to my bookshop website and put a link on this blog.
Michael I agree with your tribute to the Thanet Council Land Contamination officers. The contribution and the expertise of Morgan Sproates should be valued I think.
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me that the monitoring role delegated to Planning Cttee re CGP has got to be transparent so that the electorate can see that the Planning Cllrs are seeking and heeding the expert advice available from TDC specialist and qualified staff.
You are right to point out that you are not scaremongering.
The argument has moved on. The FOI responses, re Sericol and Thor, have now established as local fact that things do go seriously wrong and that there is a compelling case for the rigorous application of precautionary principle.
From my point of view I have now taken things to their inevitable conclusion as obligatory at law. It is on the record as a challenge and there is nothing more I can do unless the Chief constable stops hiding and elects to face me in a Court.
That arena, if it ever happens, will be under the disciplines of evidence. You already know that I can carry the day re 6th Thanet Gun Range. I think you are aware I will carry the day on sabotage consistent with IRA Garland Plan.
It is obligatory Common Law. I have laid the information. And for the Chief constable he may like to label me as a conspiracy theorist but I have now concentrated his mind on whether he wants to back his previous ad hominem fallacy position against me in a Court.
So far the answer is he is being silent.
I stand ready. I have called put up or shut up at Common Law. And so far he is shutting up.
They may make him Met Commissioner but the fact will remain this is what lays on the Court Common Law Records.
One giant leap from the Court of Public Opinion to the Court of Law.
Now who is dodging the new arena ?
Bill Hayton of the Police Authority and his Chief constable.
I reckon that is all I can do with the Thanet issues in which I have a duty.
If Tony can get me chapter and verse from Margate Historical Society on the Haine anthrax burials I will knock out another FOI application to TDC.
More time in my gym I think now unless Mike Fuller decides he will try taking me on.
SO
ReplyDeleteThere is Pfizer pipe and vessels standards on the precautionary principle record
Sericol and Thor facts put in public domain
Haine Isolation anthrax burials facts awaiting local historian information to enable me to make an FOI application to TDC.
And the Chief constable slapped with the Common Law gauntlet.
Cheers.
