EARLY BIRD DISCOUNT FOR GARDEN WASTE SCHEME

Thanet district Council press release,

Local people can get an early bird discount if they join or renew their subscriptions to Thanet District Council’s garden waste collection service.

The service, which offers collections every fortnight from April 2009 to March 2010 with a four week break over the Christmas and New Year period, costs £30 for a full year, but anyone who renews before 31 March 2009 will get a £5 early bird discount, bringing the price down to £25.

New customers joining the scheme will pay £25 for the hire of the bin in the first year they join, but will still be eligible for the early bird discount of £25, bringing the total cost to £50, if they sign up by 31 March 2009.

Garden weeds, grass cuttings, hedge trimmings, flowers, plants, leaves and small twigs and branches of less than an inch in diameter can go into the bin. Garden waste must be put into the bins loose. Soil, stones, rubbles, plant pots, food waste, plastic bags and large logs or branches will not be accepted.

Cllr. Shirley Tomlinson, Cabinet Member for Environmental Services, said: “Renewing or signing up to the council’s garden waste collection service couldn’t be simpler and there’s an added incentive if you do so before the end of the month. The scheme’s been very successful since it was introduced a year ago at a cost of just £1.25 for each fortnightly collection. It’s an easy and green way to get rid of your garden waste and all people have to do put their bin out once a fortnight and we’ll do the rest. All the items we collect are taken to a composting site.”

To renew your subscription or to join the scheme, visit http://www.thanet.gov.uk/ and follow the links to garden waste collection service payments or call 01843 577115 and pay using your credit or debit card. Bins and details of your collection day, which may differ from your usual recycling and waste collection day, will be delivered within 14 days of payment being received.

Comments, since I started writing this blog in 2007 the way the internet works has changed a lot, comments and dialogue here were once viable in an open and anonymous sense. Now if you comment here I will only allow the comment if it seems to make sense and be related to what the post is about. I link the majority of my posts to the main local Facebook groups and to my Facebook account, “Michael Child” I guess the main Ramsgate Facebook group is We Love Ramsgate. For the most part the comments and dialogue related to the posts here goes on there. As for the rest of it, well this blog handles images better than Facebook, which is why I don’t post directly to my Facebook account, although if I take a lot of photos I am so lazy that I paste them directly from my camera card to my bookshop website and put a link on this blog.
