MORE SUPPORT FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE VICTIMS

Thanet district Council press release

More support will now be available for the victims of domestic abuse, following the graduation of a new set of Freedom Programme Facilitators.

The Freedom Programme is a free educational and empowerment course, designed for women who are survivors of domestic abuse. The programme covers topics such as the different types of abusive behaviour and the effect that this behaviour has upon the victims and their families.

The programme has been running in Thanet since 2005 and has processed over 200 referrals. Now that an additional 15 facilitators have been trained in the area, the total amount of people able to lead the groups has risen to 26, ensuring that more women than ever before can access the course.

Dee Neligan, Thanet Domestic Abuse Service Coordinator, said: “It’s fantastic that we can now offer this course to an increased number of domestic abuse survivors. The feedback from the Freedom Programme tells us that women who have attended it come away from the groups feeling more in control of their lives, more confident and less likely to enter into another abusive relationship. Their feelings of safety improve and the group provides an excellent support network for them.”

Comments, since I started writing this blog in 2007 the way the internet works has changed a lot, comments and dialogue here were once viable in an open and anonymous sense. Now if you comment here I will only allow the comment if it seems to make sense and be related to what the post is about. I link the majority of my posts to the main local Facebook groups and to my Facebook account, “Michael Child” I guess the main Ramsgate Facebook group is We Love Ramsgate. For the most part the comments and dialogue related to the posts here goes on there. As for the rest of it, well this blog handles images better than Facebook, which is why I don’t post directly to my Facebook account, although if I take a lot of photos I am so lazy that I paste them directly from my camera card to my bookshop website and put a link on this blog.
