The Royal Eagle Paddle Steamer at Ramsgate.
This was important to him, as his father had served on her during the war, I found it eventually in one of the old guides that I have reprinted, “Ramsgate For 1934” click on the link if you want to buy it http://www.michaelsbookshop.com/catalogue/ramsgate_for_1934.htm
Alternatively I have published the whole guide online for fellow bloggers click on the link for it http://www.michaelsbookshop.com/310/ originals of these old guides are very difficult to get and very frail making them difficult to use if you do.
One thing that is particularly useful about these guides is that they allow you to put a fairly accurate date to the pictures in them, something that is often very difficult with postcards and lose photographs and up to a point they help when dating the others.

Comments, since I started writing this blog in 2007 the way the internet works has changed a lot, comments and dialogue here were once viable in an open and anonymous sense. Now if you comment here I will only allow the comment if it seems to make sense and be related to what the post is about. I link the majority of my posts to the main local Facebook groups and to my Facebook account, “Michael Child” I guess the main Ramsgate Facebook group is We Love Ramsgate. For the most part the comments and dialogue related to the posts here goes on there. As for the rest of it, well this blog handles images better than Facebook, which is why I don’t post directly to my Facebook account, although if I take a lot of photos I am so lazy that I paste them directly from my camera card to my bookshop website and put a link on this blog.
Nice looking steamer, she wouldn't be able to get on the landing stage now not enough water. I understand the landing stage is like the east cliff road, tdc put a weight limit on it 20 years ago and it hasn't been inspected since!!!!
ReplyDeleteI think this was the steamer that took us to our first seaside holiday after the war, London to Ramsgate. It had been used in the rescue from Dunkirk.
