Pinch and a punch it’s the first of the month, review of the Thanet blogs in November.

Comments, since I started writing this blog in 2007 the way the internet works has changed a lot, comments and dialogue here were once viable in an open and anonymous sense. Now if you comment here I will only allow the comment if it seems to make sense and be related to what the post is about. I link the majority of my posts to the main local Facebook groups and to my Facebook account, “Michael Child” I guess the main Ramsgate Facebook group is We Love Ramsgate. For the most part the comments and dialogue related to the posts here goes on there. As for the rest of it, well this blog handles images better than Facebook, which is why I don’t post directly to my Facebook account, although if I take a lot of photos I am so lazy that I paste them directly from my camera card to my bookshop website and put a link on this blog.
"Margate Bloke" is almost certainly Mick "Mr Margate" Tomlinson (his first post was about Shirley Tomlinson, and he's also been reminiscing about the Dreamland Ballroom - where he was a DJ!).
ReplyDeleteThe local blog scene is over conservative? I see your political analysis is as 'unbiased' as ever, Michael. I'm not sure if you are capable of moving as far to the right as Marxist Leninism requires, tho you certainly qualify in their ability to bend the truth to your own requirements.
ReplyDeleteChris you missed the critical word out “topical” which I think suggests the blog where there is some sort of dialogue in terms of comment.
DeleteGranted there is Thanet Lab and I think someone left a comment there in September, Thanet Watch 2 comments since the beginning of August and there are of course the ones that mostly don’t touch on anything political.
Having a dialogue about local issues, it seems to be here, Thanet Life and now this new one, which you can comment on without either filling in a form or passing some sort of eyesight test, along the line of is it a 3 or an 8 or is that h or ln.
In the first instance I would vote for a councillor who would bother to communicate with me, you, Simon and Ian Driver would get my vote if you stood in my ward on that score alone.
The awful silence coming out of the Labour group over the Pleasurama debacle isn’t going unnoticed you know.
It will make no difference that "the local blog scene is over conservative" as far as votors are concerned. Conservative commentators always see the need to make both obnoxious and personal attacks when trying to get their personal points across. I know Michael you are often fair game for speaking out about the past and present council but what has Peter every done to often be attacked? One good thing about thanet blogs is that they have a rich history of who called who what, i dont think I need to give examples now but maybe come the next election time!
DeleteAnonymous 10:29,
ReplyDeleteConcerning the local blog scene: you say that Conservative commentators always see the need to make both obnoxious and personal attacks when trying to get their personal points across. Are you absolutely certain that this applies just to Conservative commentators alone?
I would estimate that ninety percent of commentators on this blog do so as 'anonymous'. In which case how are we to know their political affiliations. Unless of coursde they say so, which most of them do not.
Ah Michael, you have no sense of irony at all!
ReplyDeleteUnnoticed? Uncommented upon certainly, which is often where your perceived bias comes visible.
So few commentators on your blog use their own names, although for some the tone and style always shows who they are. Personally not aware of being beastly to Peter - certainly no more than to others.
Chris, none whatsoever.
ReplyDeleteTo me a blog suggests a dialogue, I publish the thoughts of chairman Child, I get about fifty comments saying how clever I am with links to gentlemen’s enlargement sites and so on, fortunately these are spam, and then the rest.
I can see a time not far off, Chris; when you and Ian Driver are the only two councillors with an opinion. Very hard to know if you disagree with the rest.
Peter is another person who comments under his real name, so no wonder people are beastly to him, it is very difficult to be beastly to someone who is anonymous, they could for instance be your dear old auntie
But chairman child will often take those opinions and rewrite them to suit his own purpose, as you did with my views on ramsgate maritime museum recently. Most may think its not worth the risk of giving you the chance to do that - something you do not do with your favoured politicians. You mocked a conservative press release some weeks ago, and explained labour's silence by saying you had sent Clive Hart. So implest to ignore you and not engage is the lesson is it not?
ReplyDeleteSorry should read sent Hart an email, which you never followed through, so the lesson is easier to ignore you than engage.
ReplyDeleteChris I think the problem here is one of perception, in Ramsgate the perception appears to be the Conservative group are against the reopening of the maritime museum and will do their best to close it if they return to power. That they are for night flights at a level around the same as the allowance of a major London hub airport and would seek to impose them on us if they get re-elected.
DeleteOn the whole I am not getting anywhere with the Labour group, who don’t seem to wish to respond to me in any meaningful way, but at the moment is Pleasurama I am asking them about.
I spent much of today discussing Pleasurama with The Man from Auntie and I think it unfortunate that neither Labour group nor officers wished to discuss it with me beforehand. I just hope I got things fairly right.
Just re: Chrome...it is faster than IE,Firefox or opera.
ReplyDeleteYogi, it most certainly is, the problem is that it has become very heavy on memory usage so that on some computers it takes over the available memory to such as extent that say watching a program on iplayer becomes impossible.
DeleteI have a wife and four children, this means six laptops and six desktops plus three computers used for my business, some seem fine with Chrome, others not, this especially applies to XP.
