Not a good start to the first week of the New Year, restored Ramsgate shelter damaged.

Thanks to Ben for sending me the pictures, the vandalism happened last night as you can see in a very public place.

  1. what is wrong with people. having taken photos of the seaward side of the Pavilion yesterday it seems "out of sight out of mind". TDC you really need to deal with the graffiti on Ramsgate seafront

    1. What is wrong with people is, Barry, as it has always been, that without effective deterrents the mindless will resort to crime and vandalism. Once the liberal attitudes ran amok in the world, placing rights above responsibilities, and removing almost all real deterrents like capital and corporal punishment along with the cane in schools, the end product was inevitable. We reap what we sow.

    2. I noticed the bushes behind those shelters were cut down so that those seeking sanctuary are put on public display! Was that act of corporate vandalism by common consent I wonder?

    3. Still, I am sure it is really a small price to pay for weary passers by, to listen to the din of cars and to have the well to do peering down at them from their nice apartments, to have the privilege of sitting in a cake decoration.

Good to see you enjoying the rugged countryside on your Trekking Blog Peter, good for you!

    4. The bushes were reduced in height to facilitate restoration.

    5. The way I see you have two options here, one is to keep cutting the vegetation so that the shelters are clearly visible from the flats the other is the zen martial arts option bushido. For this you tie your tie around your forehead and hide in a bush, when vandals start smashing the glass or writing cum autem nobis non dicitur, sed nobiscum? quia si ita diceretur, obscaenius concurrerent litterae; you jump out of a bush yelling “AH BONSAI” and waving a rice flail.

  2. Solo, Your remark puzzles me. Who and from what threat were those seeking sanctuary behind the bushes?

    1. I wouldn't look too deeply into my remarks John. I just felt like adding a little pathos into the discussion since I have always felt Ramsgate Eastcliff will continue on its path to becoming and remaining a near featureless terrain. And I suspect the constant references to these shelters is a pre-occupation many will not understand any more than they do my own. However, Happy New Year to You

  3. £100 REWARD.

A reward of £100 is offered for information leading to the conviction of any person involved in criminal damage to the Ramsgate promenade shelters.

    1. Readit,

I would like to add to the reward. Who should I contact?

    2. The Ramsgate Society is providing the reward, all additional contributions are welcome. You can confirm any contribution to the "contact us" page of The Ramsgate Society website.

As a point of information to replace one sheet of glass costs approximately £80

  4. Peter,

Blogs are bad enough, but Twitter can take over your life.

  5. interesting that twitter becomes a way of having a discussion however blog discussions enable the whole discussion together. I use both but for different reasons.

Comments, since I started writing this blog in 2007 the way the internet works has changed a lot, comments and dialogue here were once viable in an open and anonymous sense. Now if you comment here I will only allow the comment if it seems to make sense and be related to what the post is about. I link the majority of my posts to the main local Facebook groups and to my Facebook account, “Michael Child” I guess the main Ramsgate Facebook group is We Love Ramsgate. For the most part the comments and dialogue related to the posts here goes on there. As for the rest of it, well this blog handles images better than Facebook, which is why I don’t post directly to my Facebook account, although if I take a lot of photos I am so lazy that I paste them directly from my camera card to my bookshop website and put a link on this blog.
