Football in Broadstairs

A nice bit of feedback from my post “Britton the Broadstairs Butcher
“Well - I got as far as the 4th pic on your site (Broadstairs Football Team 1937) - and found myself looking at my own father.

Ernest (Joe) Darby (1914 - 2007) is the last footballer on the right of the pic. Nick”

Nick also sent me the picture above of Broadstairs Football Team in 1906, click on it to enlarge and click here for the 1937 picture.

  1. My father (Stanley G. Clark, 1915 - 2005) is in the 1937 Broadstairs Football photo too. I have a copy of the photo and the badge from Dad's shirt. My father had annotated the photo as follows:
Back Row: George Bishop, W. Stannard, Len Wood, Stan Clark, Jack Carlisle, Bill Rudland, Norman Gore, Ernest Darby & Tom Stannard father of bill Stannard. Front row: Les Crampton, Reg. Harris, George Perry and Vic Perry. Les Crampton and Jack Carlisle both killed early in the war.

Comments, since I started writing this blog in 2007 the way the internet works has changed a lot, comments and dialogue here were once viable in an open and anonymous sense. Now if you comment here I will only allow the comment if it seems to make sense and be related to what the post is about. I link the majority of my posts to the main local Facebook groups and to my Facebook account, “Michael Child” I guess the main Ramsgate Facebook group is We Love Ramsgate. For the most part the comments and dialogue related to the posts here goes on there. As for the rest of it, well this blog handles images better than Facebook, which is why I don’t post directly to my Facebook account, although if I take a lot of photos I am so lazy that I paste them directly from my camera card to my bookshop website and put a link on this blog.
