One of my readers sent me this interesting sheet from the plans for Margate harbour arm, as you see it is held in place by piles driven into the ground. This is a different construction method to Ramsgate’s harbour arms, which have granite foundations embedded in the chalk.Does anyone know what the piles are made of?
