Manston Airport noise and fuel pollution
8 comments:
Comments, since I started writing this blog in 2007 the way the internet works has changed a lot, comments and dialogue here were once viable in an open and anonymous sense. Now if you comment here I will only allow the comment if it seems to make sense and be related to what the post is about. I link the majority of my posts to the main local Facebook groups and to my Facebook account, “Michael Child” I guess the main Ramsgate Facebook group is We Love Ramsgate. For the most part the comments and dialogue related to the posts here goes on there. As for the rest of it, well this blog handles images better than Facebook, which is why I don’t post directly to my Facebook account, although if I take a lot of photos I am so lazy that I paste them directly from my camera card to my bookshop website and put a link on this blog.
I remember the meeting at the old Ramsgate School where Barry Coppock got up in front of hundreds of local residents. Hundreds more were turned away because the hall was full. He told us that the airport wouldn't cost us a penny and that thousands of jobs would be created.
ReplyDeleteTen years later, and the airport employs a couple of dozen people. What do we get in return for hosting this monstrosity? We get a large jet circling round and round all day on Saturday ruining the day for many people who live in Ramsgate and the villages.
The clowns who sit at TDC all voted to expand the airport and, contrary to Barry Coppock's promises, they've got away with spending thousands of pounds of public money trying to make it happen. Who can forget the EUjet debacle?
With fuel costs rising and airlines failing, I think it's time to admit that the whole project is a failure and for planners to be forced to seriously consider what else could and should be done with the site. Otherwise, we might just end up with 700 acres of housing.
I've got a great idea. how about 700 acres of housing?
ReplyDeleteseriously, anything. 2,752 meters of unused tarmac, miles of fencing. Westwood cross, china gateway, thaet earth - its got enough room for all of them. what a waste of space, time and money.
ReplyDeleteif anything has dragged the area backwards, its that feckin airport.
michael, where is the meeting tomorro? What time? Funnily enough, not advertised anywhere - KIA's website, nor TDC's
ReplyDeleteWhy doesn't someone ask Tim Garbutt how he travels? No need, on his website he bleats on about how he uses all kinds of transport - planes, trains etc. etc. to visit his wifes home country. so if its alright for him what right has he to stop locals from using a very convenient quick means of transport - just because there are no flights to the Far East is no reason to slag it off!
ReplyDeletePerhaps he should swim to his next destination then he could save the planet all on his own.
2pm at Manston I think: Mal has details.
ReplyDeleteIt’s another public banned – they’re trying to restrict the public to one meet a year. Turn up though
With Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson now doing circuits, perhaps we could persuade him to come and make a noise that would attract visitors rather than put them off. Anyone for moshing to Run to the Hills?
ReplyDeleteMany people have concerns about the airport but while one 'high decibel' person dominates the agenda articulate, and potenially influencial, people are put off from getting involved.
ReplyDeleteWho wants to appear to be on this side of a spluttering, noisy person who doesn't give other people a chance to speak?
KIA couln't have a better spokesman than Tim Garbutt, as he makes opposition to the airport appear extremist, blustery and weak. If Tim really wants Thanet to oppose the airport he should shut his mouth for a little while and let a debate develop, instead of just groans from people who really do have something to say.
