Your Thanet

I have just been reading Your Thanet and can recommend today’s edition, big article on China Gateway and several other issues that have been of concern locally are covered.

Of special interest to bloggers this weeks yourthanetblogger is Bertie Biggles and Simon Moores gets some pretty heated responses to his yourthanetbloggering on the letters pages.

  1. Both letters were rather wide of the point I thought. I was particularly amused by the attempt to link the Turner to the community charge.

Anyway, without letters there wouldn't be much evidence that the opinion column hit its mark!

  3. Hi chaps sorry the point I am trying to make here in my own rather evasive way, is not about the rights and wrongs of this and that, but more to explore how blogging relates to and effects the press and other organisations.

Something I think is interesting here in this relationship between blogging and the press, is the number of times bloggers names cropped up in this edition relative to the rest of the population; it’s phenomenal. Also the number of issues first raised on local blogs, something I find surprising is the way that none of the local papers seem to have managed online comment yet.

I think Your Thanet is nearly there, I left a comment on their article about China Gateway but it didn’t appear for some reason, probably technical, what is so strange is that they don’t just use blogger, same with local government really.

They have the potential for real public consultation with blogger, not just paying lip service to it, when you think TDC have actually set their part of the UKPlanning website so the public can’t view each others comments, secrecy born out of fear? Incompetence, arrogance any ideas?

Comments, since I started writing this blog in 2007 the way the internet works has changed a lot, comments and dialogue here were once viable in an open and anonymous sense. Now if you comment here I will only allow the comment if it seems to make sense and be related to what the post is about. I link the majority of my posts to the main local Facebook groups and to my Facebook account, “Michael Child” I guess the main Ramsgate Facebook group is We Love Ramsgate. For the most part the comments and dialogue related to the posts here goes on there. As for the rest of it, well this blog handles images better than Facebook, which is why I don’t post directly to my Facebook account, although if I take a lot of photos I am so lazy that I paste them directly from my camera card to my bookshop website and put a link on this blog.
