Thanet gets the most blue flags with eight, but Ramsgate Main Sands misses out.

Here is what they have to say:

Once again this year Thanet in Kent has claimed the title for the most Blue Flag beaches with seven, closely followed by Poole, Torbay, Bournemouth and Isle of Wight which have four each. Joining them on four this year, from three in 2013, are North Norfolk and Tendring.

And here is the link to the rest of it http://www.keepbritaintidy.org/blue-flag-and-seaside-award-2014-winners-announced/2303/2/1/999

The Thanet beaches to get the Blue Flag Award for 2014 are
Minnis Bay

West Bay

St Mildreds
Thanet District Council
Westbrook Bay

I will do more on this later if I get time

  1. Hi Michael, Margate Main Sands didn't get a blue flag.
Margate Main Sands got a seaside award along with Viking Bay, Broadstairs and Ramsgate Main Sands.
Thanet got 7 blue flags: Minnis Bay, West Bay, St Mildreds, Westbrook Bay, Botany Bay, Joss Bay and Stone Bay.

  2. So why did Ramsgate and Margate miss out?

I went to a Greek island last year. One of the beaches I went to was a dump. It didn't have any facilities and the water was badly polluted; but it still had a blue flag. I just wonder if the people who award blue flags are consistent and I wonder if some of the beaches listed above are really that much better than Ramsgate sands. I know where I'd rather swim.

    3. If this is true it invalidates the whole Blue Flag system. If they aren't using current information to rate the beaches their ratings are a load of rubbish. I think we need to put this to the organisation which awards the blue flags. I looked on the blue flag web-site and they referred me to the Keep Britain Tidy Group: lynsey.atherton@keepbritaintidy.org
Let's see if we get an answer.

    6. It was difficult understanding cllr Poole's rather shambolic ramble of an answer and I suspect there was some truth mixed up in it somewhere anon

Comments, since I started writing this blog in 2007 the way the internet works has changed a lot, comments and dialogue here were once viable in an open and anonymous sense. Now if you comment here I will only allow the comment if it seems to make sense and be related to what the post is about. I link the majority of my posts to the main local Facebook groups and to my Facebook account, “Michael Child” I guess the main Ramsgate Facebook group is We Love Ramsgate. For the most part the comments and dialogue related to the posts here goes on there. As for the rest of it, well this blog handles images better than Facebook, which is why I don’t post directly to my Facebook account, although if I take a lot of photos I am so lazy that I paste them directly from my camera card to my bookshop website and put a link on this blog.
