    1. Michael. Thank you for putting up this video. So far, I've only watched the Manston question. This was a blast of fresh air, common sense and hope. I agree that Thanet does not need housing. It needs high quality intelligent jobs for our young; which Manston airport can provide.

  2. Thanks Michael, can we expect to see part 2?

  3. Was there a reason Sir Roger Gale could not attend - anyone? And will any North Thanet Conservative Councillors be getting involved in any of the campaigning I wonder? Particularly those whom have taken a keen interest in Planning over the years?

    1. (a) I suspect they just wanted 1 representative from each party, (b) If you're talking about Manston, then some North Thanet Conservative cllrs are already campaigning.

  4. After talking with people on here facebook and on ECR there is 2 sides for and against far more equal than these Cllr's would have you believe where do the against put their vote and comments?
I think Driver is the only one who understands (although in favour) the finances and how many millions it would take. I cant see that its been lack of investment that's made Manston close.
If the UK government wanted to save Manston they would have before It closed. I don't think without a change in the law on CPOs there is a legal remit for implementing a CPO on Manston. You would have thought by now the legality of a CPO would be clear but no one seems to be any the wiser.
As for their stance on bringing economic success to Thanet no one has mentioned tourism why not? The only one to say how beautiful Thanet is, was Scooby. All the others seem to be selling out Thanet to company's that would blight it even further.

  5. Purple Om.

You favour Tourism which is a prospect that has been discussed many times on this blog in the past. Have you taken into consideration that Airports are a tourist attraction, as shown by LHR and LGW. I personally know of organised groups from outside Thanet that visit Manston airport regularly.

  6. And tourists could fly to here of course, whether it's from overseas or other parts of the UK. With no airport and no passenger ferry, we're unlikely to attract many tourists.

  7. Tourists fly into Heathrow or Gatwick not manston - and then go elsewhere hopefully thanet.

Manston has failed and its only possible use as an airport is the worst of the worst cargo and night flights or a scrapyard.

Our councillors have failed us by relying on only this

  8. Anon 10:29 am,

And to extend your argument tourists would also fly into Manston which is just a short hop across the Channel.

Aircraft salvage is an intelligent, skilled and lucrative profession and cannot be dimissed as a 'scrapyard'.

  9. No 10:41 becuase it's been proven for 15 years that tourists won't fly into manston - that's why it's bust. They prefer to fly into LHR etc.

Aircraft salvage is junk with minimum wages (and done at many other sites) and certainly not the supposed 10,000 jobs. Cargo and night flights is viable but not what the public want - and again after 15 years has yielded nothing. KCC investing in a small Tesco rather than a junkyard RAF base would have provided more jobs. Are jets still dumped there to rust?

We should discuss the pollution and cancer too as a factor in closing Manston.

  11. There is an old saying possession is nine points in law Ann G has possession and no judge with even the wisdom of Solomon will wrest it from her and if they did how long would it run before they realised the magic formulae for making it work where others had failed was losing them money so another plan sell or build on it to cut their loses same problems all over again how many of the old staff would sign on another sinking ship?.

  12. Citing Tim or TG Aviation 1:40 simply means you have nothing to say on the failure of Manston. it can't be an airport and nobody wants housing so what should it be? A polluted derelict wreck like Hoverport or Thor or Pleasurama? TDC have lost their Chief Executive amidst corruption charges again and Margate High St has burned down and the Port is even more bust than thought - it doesn't look good for the area does it? Even more concerning is that the councilors and MP's still think Manston as a cargo airport or maybe a little bit of housing is a wonderful idea and use of tax.

  14. First off thanks for posting part 2 Michael.
Tourists that Mainly come from the UK are very big business. If your coming from abroad then you are far more lightly to go to London from your country of origin (60%) Then if your going to travel from London to say Ramsgate then your going to go by train/bus/car. But if I was depending on overseas visitors to Ramsgate it would badly fail. The market for visitors coming to Ramsgate is from the UK but they know how a run-down town looks and unfortunately Ramsgate needs a lot of work before we advertise.
A transport hub has been tried to death it has all failed leaving huge losses Ramsgate with no investors crumbling and decaying.
But if you watch the above video Ian Driver enthusiasm for whats coming to Ramsgate and whats happening now then if you live in Ramsgate be happy that manston airport has closed their loss is our gain. But remember if you ever get a vote for or against a CPO then vote no as this new spark will only continue if the airport stays closed.. ,

Comments, since I started writing this blog in 2007 the way the internet works has changed a lot, comments and dialogue here were once viable in an open and anonymous sense. Now if you comment here I will only allow the comment if it seems to make sense and be related to what the post is about. I link the majority of my posts to the main local Facebook groups and to my Facebook account, “Michael Child” I guess the main Ramsgate Facebook group is We Love Ramsgate. For the most part the comments and dialogue related to the posts here goes on there. As for the rest of it, well this blog handles images better than Facebook, which is why I don’t post directly to my Facebook account, although if I take a lot of photos I am so lazy that I paste them directly from my camera card to my bookshop website and put a link on this blog.
