Many thanks to Sheila who emailed me this picture of the crew of The New Moss Rose to join the other one I put up the other day below). It will go into volume four of my series of Ramsgate postcard books, when I finally get there, it is proving more and more difficult to avoid duplications because of the large number of images of Ramsgate I have already published, so it’s taking longer than I expected to get into print. 
Comments, since I started writing this blog in 2007 the way the internet works has changed a lot, comments and dialogue here were once viable in an open and anonymous sense. Now if you comment here I will only allow the comment if it seems to make sense and be related to what the post is about. I link the majority of my posts to the main local Facebook groups and to my Facebook account, “Michael Child” I guess the main Ramsgate Facebook group is We Love Ramsgate. For the most part the comments and dialogue related to the posts here goes on there. As for the rest of it, well this blog handles images better than Facebook, which is why I don’t post directly to my Facebook account, although if I take a lot of photos I am so lazy that I paste them directly from my camera card to my bookshop website and put a link on this blog.
Dear Michael's bookshop (from a loyal customer!) I can name some of those in the picture, not least of whom is Captain William Thomas Watson, the central figure in the lower photo, who was my Great Great Grandfather. The New Moss Rose itself sank in August 1933 off the Isle of Wight. Do let me know if you would like any help with the identification or subtitling of these pictures for your next volume!
ReplyDeleteMy Great Great Grandfather was on the crew of the New Moss Rose I think he is in the top picture second on the left James Ashby. I showed the picture to my mother, now 92 and she said it looked like him when he was younger.
