Another councillor cops it for homophobia

This is from Ian Driver’s facebook wall, the caps are his not mine.

TODAY I COMPLAINED TO KENT POLICE ABOUT HARRASMENT AND HOMOPHOBIC COMMENTS MADE ABOUT ME BY THANET COUNCILLOR MIKE HARRISON. THE POLICE ARE GOING TO ISSUE HIM WITH AN HARRASMENT NOTICE. IF HARRISON MAKES ANY FURTHER PUBLIC COMMENTS ABOUT ME HE IS LIABLE TO BE ARRESTED.
YESTERDAY THANET COUNCIL STANDARDS BOARD FOUND HARRISON GUILTY OF BRINGING THE COUNCIL. INTO DISREPUTE FOR DESCRIBING A WOMAN WHO OBJECTED TO BEING CALLED LOVE A FRUSTRATED DRIED UP OLD BINT NEED I SAY ANY MORE

A newspaper article with comments from both councillors has now appeared online here is the link http://www.thisiskent.co.uk/Thanet-councillor-Mike-Harrison-warned-police/story-16250868-detail/story.html

  1. ...and another one who still remains a paid councillor! Why can't they at least have the dignity to resign?

  2. So one guy with no previous gets a caution, which is a criminal record, and another, with previous, gets a harrassment notice which isn't a criminal record. Looks like one law for the right and another for the left.

    1. Surely phoning someone up and wishing them to die a slow and agonising death is a bit more extreme than referring to someone as a "shirt lifter" in conversation with a friend? Having said that I sure hope that Hart does the same as Bayford and throws him out of the party.

    1. There's been rumours for years that TDC will be abolished and Canterbury City Council will take over. Maybe all this will spur things on.

    2. I don't think we need any of the uneducated mostly retired or out of work Councillors in Thanet
they suffer from delusions of grander. It would be an insult to children to call them childish.

I know one Councillor who life models to artist in Maidstone. It is only a matter of time that he starts getting the silly comments.

    5. Haha, I know that! I've been doing it myself on and off since 1990.

  4. It is shaming when councillors antics become the story, not the work they are - or perhaps sometimes should - be doing for the island and their residents.

How do we get out of this mire? For now the only sensible thing to do is the job elected for, quietly and consistently. Today I spoke to one family which needed a school appeal; another which needed help with housing benefit; and a third who finally got permission to sell their property having been supported through a two year battle.

Not many headlines there - but on balance could well be the best place to be.

  5. And councillors should refrain from making such rude and insulting comments on blogs just because the poster have diffferent views to theirs. I am sure that cllr Wells does not need me to give examples.

    1. Unless, of course, they are Labour councillors and then I guess it is OK with you, Anon 12:10.

    2. Anon 12.54 where have you been, I wont repeat the story but I refer you to BigNews Margate 14 March where the concillor concerned overstepped the mark and was referred to and was repremanded by KCC standards committee.

    3. Nonetheless, I am sure you only remember the Tory indiscretions. Your bias clearly matches your red underwear.

Please note comments that may be libellous, comments that may be construed as offensive, anonymous derogatory comments about real people, comments baiting internet trolls, comments saying that an anonymous comment was made by a named real person, boring comments and spam comments, comments in CAPs will be deleted. Playground stuff like calling real people by their time stamp or surname alone, referring to groups as gangs, old duffers and so on will result in deletion. Comment that may be construed as offensive to minority groups is not allowed here either, so think before you write it, remember that the internet is a public place, that it is very difficult to be truly anonymous and that everyone who uses it leaves a trail of some sort. Also note the facility to leave anonymous comment will be turned of during periods when I am unable to monitor comment, this will not affect people commenting who are signed on to their blogger accounts. When things are particularly difficult on the commercial spam front I may turn comment moderation on for periods.

If you feel that someone has left a comment that is offensive and directed at you personally please email me (link on the sidebar) asking to have it removed, you will need to tell which post and the date and timestamp of the offending comment. Please do not reply to the offending comment as I will assume you continuing the dialogue as meaning that you want the comments left there.
