Old Thanet Pictures and experimental video

The first one the file says Marina Gardens so this is the beer gardens roughly outside where Nero's was in Ramsgate

The next one by the harbour in Margate from the clothing around 1900

The next one The old six bells in st Laurence I think that was near to ashburnham road

The next one Margate sands from the clothing I am guessing 1950s

The next one I think it's a newspaper clipping and about the Viking ship

The next one is manston road level crossing

The next one is digging out the site for the winter garden's

The next one is Zion place which they seem to have spelt wrong on the front of the card looking at the clothing particularly the hats I'm guessing 1920s

The next one a newspaper clipping of st Lawrence high street sorry someone seemed to clipped a bit too much

The next one Margate Harbour interestingly this is at low tide and it obviously being dregged quite a bit by the harbour wall but I know idea of the date

The next one says something like around the world in a skiff and seems to be dated 1911 and I think oh yes it says Margate on it

The next one is high streets and Lawrence and the advantage of it being a newspaper cracking is that you can be sure of the date

And the last one is a tram I should know the location but maybe Westgate or Westbrook

Finally a thought here about old people and mobile phones. Working here in Michael's Bookshop in Ramsgate a lot of my customers, particularly the customers who buy Thanet local history books have got themselves into a bit of a tangle when it comes to IT.

The main problem is they either haven't got or haven't learned to use their smartphone and then at some point in their 80s they realize that they are going to get several more years of usable life if they can do things like point the smartphone at the page of a physical book and get the smartphone to read it to them. Or of course they get to the point where their hands won't type anymore and of course with the smartphone they can do what I'm doing now which is reading it into my smartphone and this text is being typed out on the computer in front of me. And of course if they've got to old to learn to do these things then they are snookered.

Comments, since I started writing this blog in 2007 the way the internet works has changed a lot, comments and dialogue here were once viable in an open and anonymous sense. Now if you comment here I will only allow the comment if it seems to make sense and be related to what the post is about. I link the majority of my posts to the main local Facebook groups and to my Facebook account, “Michael Child” I guess the main Ramsgate Facebook group is We Love Ramsgate. For the most part the comments and dialogue related to the posts here goes on there. As for the rest of it, well this blog handles images better than Facebook, which is why I don’t post directly to my Facebook account, although if I take a lot of photos I am so lazy that I paste them directly from my camera card to my bookshop website and put a link on this blog.
