Monday morning blues, councillor’s death threat, councillor’s new blog and a ramble.

My email spam filter went bananas yesterday so some of the things I should have posted about then got missed.

First Cllr Worrow has received a death threat by post see what the bbc have to say about this at http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-kent-21404303 more about this when I have had a chance to take it in.

Next Cllr Driver has started a new blog at http://driversthanet.blogspot.co.uk/ link on the sidebar as soon as I get there.

I woke up pretty bleary this Monday morning to find a stream of offensive and obscene comment on this blog, not pleasant and something that is becoming a more frequent occurrence. I guess I will have to change the comment handling in some way, but as I say I ma a bit bleary at the moment, I though as one got older one was supposed to need less sleep, perhaps I am the exception that proves the rule.

Problems in my bookshop this morning too, I have had to shut the door on the section containing horror, fantasy and science fiction, the temperature in there is much lower than the temperature outside and it seems to be acting as something of a heatsink on the rest of the shop.

I think the horror books Stephen King, Dennis Wheatley and so must have formed a critical black mass or something, guess the next stage is chaining the books to shelves to stop them harming people. I bet you wouldn’t get this sort of problem with a Kindle, oh well that’s progress I suppose.

That picture, one I did in the summer is intended to cheer me up and of course any readers who need it, I am off for several cups of coffee. I will try to write something better here later.

  1. How many of us receiving a death threat letter would go to the BBC? Some of us would probably dismiss it as a crank and some, if worried, would go to the police and let them get on with it. I despair when I hear everything involving Cllr Worrow gets turned into a photo opportunity whilst Cllr Driver wants to make it a TDC issue.

What about the dustbins, the graffitti, Royal Sands and all the issues we pay for yet here in fast becoming looney Thanet, we debate equal marriage, homophobia and anonymous letters from Medway of all places.

    1. I'm inclined to agree... I'd certainly report it to the police, but that's all.

    2. Tom,

Maybe he's hoping to get it commissioned for a TV reality series. The only way is twit.

I overheard someone say that he wrote the letter to himself; but surely this cannot be correct.

    3. I guess the aspect of this that makes the difference is the discrimination, if you find yourself on the front end of discrimination it is difficult to get ordinary white healthy males to accept that you have been discriminated against for something you just can’t help.

If you are female, black, gay or as in my case where I was disabled as a child, the business of being believed takes on an importance of itself.

I would guess that John has had more than his fair share of this and is mostly seeking to prove that there is both discrimination towards him and the seriousness of this discrimination.

    4. A public figure is duty bound to go to the police, and as a Birchington resident I want to know about these things know, so I am pleased that the BBC reported this.

It is eye opening that Mr Clarke says nothing when Roger Gale goes on the BBC the insult the LGBT communtity.
Its clear that Mr Clarke and his ilk would rather these things be swept under the carpet

    6. The Police will most probably look at the handwriting of all 56 councilors and that of a certain retired councillor

    7. Tom, I think you will find that the days when post was sorted at your local town and stamped with your local town are over. A Kent wide sorting office has opened at Strood. So your local mail goes all the way there and back again.

    10. Anon 7:16, who mentioned where post was sorted. I certainly didn't though elsewhere I saw mention of a Medway postmark. My only point was, why would you go to the BBC with a hate letter unless you seek publicity.

Anon 4:20, what hatred would that be? Sick of the waste of local council time, tired of endless victim culture, fed up with hearing about John Worrow's problems, despairing of politicians in general (of whatever shade), but hatred, well I reserve that for Labour, PC culture and terrorists.

Anon 11:47, dead giveaway those capitals again, John.

  3. For some bizarre reason my comment appeared twice so I have deleted one. Don't want to be accused of seeking double publicity.

    5. I did not call anyone a twit. Think you are confusing me with somebody else. I am also not attacking the victim, simply questioning the never ending publicity angle and the use of council time on something not within their remit.

Oh, and for the record, I have been a victim of discrimination for having a white face in Mugabe's Zimbabwe, somewhere where going to the police to report it would have only made things worse, so please spare me the poor hard done by nonsense.

  8. Was Ken Gregory possibly just pointing out the AIDS problem in a friendly voicemail because he cares about the issue and gays are just using the issue to be nasty to the kind gentleman?

Some of the things said on here are nonsense, if he had left a voicemail saying " hope you get cancer" he would still have been treated in the same way.
It the 1980s bigots used to demonise a gay or black victms of hate crime. The problem is some of the readers of this blog still live in the past.

    1. 11:32 Your comment about gay and black victims of hate crime says it all. Most people, of what ever colour, creed, religion, gender or sexual persuasion are victims somewhere in the world and many have come to these shores to escape such persecution. Wonder what they think when it appears that in UK you can only be a victim if you are BLACK or GAY. Some people need to accept that life can be a bitch, grow up and get on with it.

Were the little white girls forced into prostitution by the Asian gang, recently in court, not victims or as white straight folk are they exempt from such status. Frankly you LGBT lovers seriously wind me up with your perpetual whining.

    2. Mr Mallinson

Your comments are disingenous. "little white girls" as you put it, are well catered for in childrens services in Thanet. But we have yet to see an LGBT organisation emerge in Thanet to lend support to its citizens. Cllr Worrow's hurt and isolation is merely a sympton of this void in civic life.

    3. So who was catering for those unfortunate children forced into prostitution, White Lady. What about all the other discrimination I mentioned or is it only John Worrow who we should be concerned about. For God's sake, he is a grown man in a grown up world who made his life choices. All I am saying is that I am sick of hearing about this pathetic victim and time he started getting on with life. He chose public office and all the publicity that goes with it and I rather get the impression he is milking it to the nth degree. As our 'Diversity Champion' what is he doing about racial discrimination in Thanet towards East Europeans or is it only gay issues that concern him. That is the impression he gives.

    4. White Lady, in case it escaped your notice, the LGBT community are adults. They should not be catered for seperately because they are not a vulnerable group, like children, disabled or elderly that need special local services though they would enjoy those available to the rest of us if they fell into one of those categories. If they want equality they should act like it and accept the world as the rest of us have to. All the time they set themselves up as seperate they are likely to be treated as such.

  9. There are several gay MPs and Lords of all parties. Some are Ministers. I do not know of any of them that spends time campaigning against personal persecution, real or imagined. In my view they get on with the job for which they were elected. Which is representing their constituents, all of them.

  11. Hey! I know this is somewhat off topic but I was
wondering which blog platform are you using for this website?
I'm getting fed up of Wordpress because I've had problems with hackers and
I'm looking at alternatives for another platform. I would be great if you could point me in the direction of a good platform.

Playground stuff like calling real people by their time stamp or surname alone, referring to groups as gangs, old duffers and so on will result in deletion. Comment that may be construed as offensive to minority groups is not allowed here either, so think before you write it, remember that the internet is a public place, that it is very difficult to be truly anonymous and that everyone who uses it leaves a trail of some sort. Also note the facility to leave anonymous comment will be turned of during periods when I am unable to monitor comment, this will not affect people commenting who are signed on to their blogger accounts. When things are particularly difficult on the commercial spam front I may turn comment moderation on for periods.
