Click to Expand, Broadstairs Folk Week by Open Top Bus from Ramsgate and some Thanet History and a ramble

One way of going to Folk Week is on the open top bus.

I go to do a bit of sketching, take a few photos, enjoy the atmosphere and music.

The photos will all expand with clicking or tapping depending on your device

On to the local history pictures

Flying boat Margate C1932

On to the ramble from Michael's Bookshop here in Ramsgate. As you would expect we are selling a lot of fiction for holiday reading. Over time, reading fiction on a device instead of a book seems to be in decline. This means we are fairly busy, there are not many other reasonably cheap sources of quality fiction in the county of Kent. At the same time there has been a decline in some sorts of non fiction, dictionaries, encyclopaedias and other non fiction where one book covers a broad area don't really sell now.

Drawing of Grace Jones

I haven't had a lot of spare time for art I did do this freehand A5 pen sketch, loosely based on a photo by Helmut Newton - Grace Jones And Dolph Lundgren, 1985 and it went down well on the various art Facebook groups I posted it to.
Our Children's book section has been particularly busy recently, so if someone tells you that young people don't read books here in Ramsgate I can confirm that they are wrong.

Comments, since I started writing this blog in 2007 the way the internet works has changed a lot, comments and dialogue here were once viable in an open and anonymous sense. Now if you comment here I will only allow the comment if it seems to make sense and be related to what the post is about. I link the majority of my posts to the main local Facebook groups and to my Facebook account, “Michael Child” I guess the main Ramsgate Facebook group is We Love Ramsgate. For the most part the comments and dialogue related to the posts here goes on there. As for the rest of it, well this blog handles images better than Facebook, which is why I don’t post directly to my Facebook account, although if I take a lot of photos I am so lazy that I paste them directly from my camera card to my bookshop website and put a link on this blog.
