These are the steps that lead from the top of the Eastcliff to the entrance to the Ramsgate Tunnels. The second picture shows the fireman digging through the rubble to see if anyone was buried underneath of course they had no way of knowing if anyone was on the steps when they collapsed. There was another big collapse in 1956 during the rebuilding. I have added a couple of newspaper articles about this event. My own feelings are that we are probably due another serious cliff collapse in Ramsgate. There's only been one fairly minor one since I opened Michael's bookshop here in 1987 and I have reservations about tdc's maintenance of the cliff behind the new development there. The cliff face there is once again looking in a very bad state. Apologies in advance for any errors in this post, it's very busy in the bookshop today and I have used speech to text recognition in the gaps between selling people their holiday reading.

Comments, since I started writing this blog in 2007 the way the internet works has changed a lot, comments and dialogue here were once viable in an open and anonymous sense. Now if you comment here I will only allow the comment if it seems to make sense and be related to what the post is about. I link the majority of my posts to the main local Facebook groups and to my Facebook account, “Michael Child” I guess the main Ramsgate Facebook group is We Love Ramsgate. For the most part the comments and dialogue related to the posts here goes on there. As for the rest of it, well this blog handles images better than Facebook, which is why I don’t post directly to my Facebook account, although if I take a lot of photos I am so lazy that I paste them directly from my camera card to my bookshop website and put a link on this blog.
