Now one has appeared on the east pier facing away from the sea, let me be quite clear here, this isn’t some sort of security hut but one of the standard fairly flimsy beach huts the same as the ones put on pretty much all of the other Thanet beaches apart from the three in Ramsgate.
News, Local history and Thanet issues from Michael's Bookshop in Ramsgate see www.michaelsbookshop.com I publish over 200 books about the history of this area click here to look at them.

New Beach Hut for Ramsgate
Now one has appeared on the east pier facing away from the sea, let me be quite clear here, this isn’t some sort of security hut but one of the standard fairly flimsy beach huts the same as the ones put on pretty much all of the other Thanet beaches apart from the three in Ramsgate.

Comments, since I started writing this blog in 2007 the way the internet works has changed a lot, comments and dialogue here were once viable in an open and anonymous sense. Now if you comment here I will only allow the comment if it seems to make sense and be related to what the post is about. I link the majority of my posts to the main local Facebook groups and to my Facebook account, “Michael Child” I guess the main Ramsgate Facebook group is We Love Ramsgate. For the most part the comments and dialogue related to the posts here goes on there. As for the rest of it, well this blog handles images better than Facebook, which is why I don’t post directly to my Facebook account, although if I take a lot of photos I am so lazy that I paste them directly from my camera card to my bookshop website and put a link on this blog.
Will it be used as a ticket office for boat trips or something maybe?
ReplyDeletevisitor information office, the return of the camera obscura, or a portaloo
ReplyDeleteLuxury apartment finished on time on sea front.
ReplyDeleterather boringly, hut for security guards whose sole role is to stop thanets yoof from launching themselves into the mud, sorry, harbour.
ReplyDeletePeter, sad but true.
16.36 It is facing away from the fish landing quay where the Ramsgate youf myself included have, do and probably always will dive from, there must be some great mind at work here, positioning the hut so that you cant see what it is supposed to be supervising.
ReplyDeleteI hope they got listed building consent to park this shed on a Grade II listed structure.
ReplyDeleteAnd - from bitter experience - have properly calculated and installed anchorages for possible wind and wave effects?
ReplyDeletePerhaps if we keep watch on it long enough a new incarnation of Dr Who might appear? Or perhaps it is to compensate Ramsgate for the Turner Centre being built elsewhere?? No expense spared obviously.
ReplyDeleteIt's the new beginning of the pier cafe. What style!
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling that it may also be a charging point to use the pier. Into the harbour with it.
Its a very similar style hut to the ones we have in Bath for the Christmas market! Maybe its going to sell some seafood!
ReplyDeleteApparently it is the new harbour office for the new commercial manager aka Brian White.
ReplyDeleteThe current staff are all being relocated to margate before being given the chop.
