The first picture dates from 1917 by the postmark although my guess is it was taken before world war 1. The second picture is from 2015 and the third picture from 1987. Next I have added the pages for the High Street from the 1974 Street directory. You can buy a variety of cheap reprints of Thanet directories dating from 1849 here at Michael's Bookshop in Ramsgate. We also stock various original directories these vary in price from about £20 to about £300 depending on what we've got at any given time, the date and the condition. Secondhand bookselling is a complicated business and the prices both when we are buying a book and selling a book are mostly based on scarcity. Lastly, some thoughts on social media. I do my best to post something related to local history on Facebook every day the bookshop is open. This is something that I do between customers and fits well with the time I have available. I do try to spread the post across the local Facebook groups and all in all it gets a moderate response. I have now started posting mostly about books on tiktok and this produces a much larger response so I will try to do some local history posts there where I think they will reach a much larger audience.

Comments, since I started writing this blog in 2007 the way the internet works has changed a lot, comments and dialogue here were once viable in an open and anonymous sense. Now if you comment here I will only allow the comment if it seems to make sense and be related to what the post is about. I link the majority of my posts to the main local Facebook groups and to my Facebook account, “Michael Child” I guess the main Ramsgate Facebook group is We Love Ramsgate. For the most part the comments and dialogue related to the posts here goes on there. As for the rest of it, well this blog handles images better than Facebook, which is why I don’t post directly to my Facebook account, although if I take a lot of photos I am so lazy that I paste them directly from my camera card to my bookshop website and put a link on this blog.
