Having watched BBC southeast today the lead item being about Thanet District Council, with Emeritus Professor of Government at LSE George Jones describing our council meetings as dysfunctional, I guess as a Thanet blog author I have to say something.
I think the gist of the item hinges around animosity between the Conservative group and the rest of the councillors that form between them the majority keeping Labour in power.
Part of the grievances seems to be Cllr Gregory should apologise or go, part seems that the Conservatives feel they should still be in power, but it does appear that more members of the council are concentrating on their grievances than running Thanet.
They told me, and in writing, that they do this to stop people copying it and infringing their copyright, well the BBC have obviously copied it and used the part they felt like. I copy it every month, so I can at least view it large enough to see.
I suppose over the years the differences between UK national Labour and Conservative politics has changed and I think many of the older politicians have lost track.
I have said before that the Thanet Conservatives seem to have a 1960s mindset with the Thanet Labour group a 1970s mindset, watching the dreadful council produced video, with a quality worse that the video from an average mobile phone. The councillors wrangling about issues that frankly belong in another decade. I guess one mostly feels a sense of embarrassment.
Considering the council spend a great deal of money putting the thing on the internet themselves badly, when they could put in on Youtube for nothing, even live stream it if the wanted to, it is a constant reminder of them wasting our money.
