I think it was 2005 that Marks and Spencer closed in Ramsgate, correct me if I’m wrong. Pictures of Marks and Spencer are quite hard to find with both of these pictures I'm fairly certain that they are Ramsgate. I used to use Marks and Spencer a lot when I first opened Michael’s Bookshop here in Ramsgate in 1987. So I think the timing of the closure is about right. I also remember that its closure had a big impact on Ramsgate as a town center. I'm sorry I haven't got any relatively modern pictures, it's surprising how often you don't rush out and photograph Marks and Spencers.

I went sketching and book buying in Canterbury yesterday. If you are unfamiliar with Canterbury that is a garden inside the cathedral precincts between the main entrance and the toilets that it's a good place to relax. It is possible to order drinks and food that is delivered to your table by going up the steps in the garden and then down the steps in the hotel. See photos below.

Comments, since I started writing this blog in 2007 the way the internet works has changed a lot, comments and dialogue here were once viable in an open and anonymous sense. Now if you comment here I will only allow the comment if it seems to make sense and be related to what the post is about. I link the majority of my posts to the main local Facebook groups and to my Facebook account, “Michael Child” I guess the main Ramsgate Facebook group is We Love Ramsgate. For the most part the comments and dialogue related to the posts here goes on there. As for the rest of it, well this blog handles images better than Facebook, which is why I don’t post directly to my Facebook account, although if I take a lot of photos I am so lazy that I paste them directly from my camera card to my bookshop website and put a link on this blog.
