Commercial Appendix

Firstly for those of you who are interested in old Ramsgate businesses click here for the commercial appendix to my publication Ramsgate illustrated, I have just put it on the web.

Now a bit of a Sunday meander, first having given some thoughts to the asset sales, it does seem that the council lacks any sort of proper plan for Ramsgate.

Selling off the maritime museum seems pretty stupid, one would have thought selling off the tourist information office and relocating it to the museum site with a restructured museum, run by volunteers would be a much better option.

Losing control of a large chunk of the harbour also seems like muddled thinking, one gets the impression that instead of a proper plan for the future of the harbour and port, there is an approach of how much money can be bleed from it.

I gather that a lot of the business that could have come to the port when it left Folkestone was lost because of the council’s lack of action.

I still haven’t had any answers to my questions about the Sericol leak, but have had an answer from TDC saying that they are consulting with the environment agency and will soon produce some.

I am assuming that since there has been such a long delay getting answers to the questions, are crops being irrigated and washed with contaminated water, and are the fumes coming out of the ground at Westwood? Something is probably seriously wrong.

Having done more research on the subject I am fairly certain that Cyclohexanone would have spread to a fairly large area around the site, and that the vacuum extraction plant would be unlikely to have removed as much as half of it from the ground.

  1. I have heard a whisper that erstwhile Sericol site maintenance engineer, with alleged bogus qualifications who was given severance in 1998, has just been listed to be made redundant 10th November.

    George Richard Maison

Anyone know which employer is laying off the former tory cllr this time ? Be interested to know.

He must be thinking his job security is subject to a curse ?

    perhaps a cycloHEXanone

  2. The issues I put before Kent Police Authority and, more recently, Local Govt Ombudsman against Cllr William Hayton arose in 1998 and include the cyclohexanone matter.

The question (which Mr Hayton has neither answered to TDC or to KPA) is what he may have said on oath at Aldwych High Court in 1998 called as a witness by the said MAISON.

    The facts seem clear:

    (1) Kent Police Authority called for inquiry in 1997 relating to Maison's arrest in 1987 for paramilitary activity within Territorial Army. This call remained open throughout 1998.

    (2) Sericol held inquiry into the status of qualifications of its maintenance staff and into a then recent history of thefts of company property. In the weeks before the High Court case, which found former tory Cllr Maison guilty of libel, Sericol chose to give him severance (I was told this by MD's secretary).

    (3) Sericol were two years into the running of the Environment Agency supervised remediation project at Poorhole Lane.

    (4) There had been a caution meeting at TDC related to interception of mail sent to the council.

    (5) KCC Youth Affiliation service were making inquiries about Kent Adventure Training corps of which Maison was once an adult leader. The next leader Richards was involved in Thanet REME Assn and British Army Assn with Maison

    (6) The REME Assn and Corps Secretariat in March 1998 ran records checks related to associates of Maison and called in MOD Police (case officer Det sgt Eileen Macadam) to inquire and liaise with Kent Police.

The question for Hayton is simple.

Did you tell the Court on oath that there were no procedures of inquiry about George Richard Maison ?

It appears that Hayton has continued to elect silence, rather than respect requirements for accountability in public office, on the basis that he did not sign a Code of Conduct until 2002 and that his behaviour before that cannot be held to account by the bodies to which he is elected now. TDC and KPA.

My position is that he is wrong.

he would be right (if morally wrong) only if his behaviour before the 2002 Code of Conduct were events. But his behaviour gave rise to ongoing duty and obligation (Civil Procedure Rules of High Court and Common Law) and he should be held to account now for how he discharges duty and obligation.

I am glad he abruptly stood down as Chair of TDC Planning.

When did he as Chair of Planning first become officially aware of the horrible scale of the Sericol incident ?

And like every other aspect of his sorry history choose the silence of the coward as a defence ?

  3. Have you read this site Michael ?

    all the great and good

I spy revd MacDonald there who championed Kent Adventure Training Corps. mmmmm Rev they stopped being affiliated as a youth group by KCC in 2003. So perhaps Rick was right and the condescending manna god wrong eh ?

I see Pc Kim Burgess there. Pre conviction as a criminal liar.

And none of these huge throng of 1997 eco warriors, planning for the eco health of Thanet into the 21st century, found out about the Sericol incident then one year into its remediation project ?

Surely TDC would have told them ? or not .....

Comments, since I started writing this blog in 2007 the way the internet works has changed a lot, comments and dialogue here were once viable in an open and anonymous sense. Now if you comment here I will only allow the comment if it seems to make sense and be related to what the post is about. I link the majority of my posts to the main local Facebook groups and to my Facebook account, “Michael Child” I guess the main Ramsgate Facebook group is We Love Ramsgate. For the most part the comments and dialogue related to the posts here goes on there. As for the rest of it, well this blog handles images better than Facebook, which is why I don’t post directly to my Facebook account, although if I take a lot of photos I am so lazy that I paste them directly from my camera card to my bookshop website and put a link on this blog.
