Painting The Royal Albion Hotel in Broadstairs and The Sands Lift in Ramsgate

I started a new pen and watercolour sketch of The Royal Albion Hotel in Broadstairs this morning.

 one for the art critics
as you can't paint light on dark with watercolour bits like the writing on the sign have to be painted first and the the dark sign painted around the writing.

I think I will have to consider more powerful reading glasses.

I had lunch at Candy's aka Tops and did a quick sketch of the lift while I was there

I guess the lift will look a little less uncomfortable when I have gone back and sketched in the cliff and the hou8ses next to it.

Why so much deeper than wide? I sketched the front first and then the writing on the side saying "Lift" a word that proved longer than expected.

  1. So much I could say but I refrain from saying it. Lift is not a L O N G word but I do understand but at least it has a light background.

Comments, since I started writing this blog in 2007 the way the internet works has changed a lot, comments and dialogue here were once viable in an open and anonymous sense. Now if you comment here I will only allow the comment if it seems to make sense and be related to what the post is about. I link the majority of my posts to the main local Facebook groups and to my Facebook account, “Michael Child” I guess the main Ramsgate Facebook group is We Love Ramsgate. For the most part the comments and dialogue related to the posts here goes on there. As for the rest of it, well this blog handles images better than Facebook, which is why I don’t post directly to my Facebook account, although if I take a lot of photos I am so lazy that I paste them directly from my camera card to my bookshop website and put a link on this blog.
