Old Thanet Pictures and Video about Books for Very Young Children

So starting with four Ramsgate wartime Wellington Crescent pictures, I'm sorry if I have posted some all of these recently but looking at them I just couldn't remember.

Then one looking across Westcliff Arcade before the red brick arches were built. Pre 1890s note the shipping in the Harbour.

Then 2 of the Royal Sovereign paddle steamer

Then a cartoon from the 1800s depicting the problem of seasickness and paddle steamers.

Then a concert in Dane park.

Then a Margate lifeboat picture.

Then Wanstall butchers in Margate.

Then the White Swan pub in Ramsgate I think this is probably looking along Hardres Street you can see the older of the two gas works on the right. That is not the gas works that is now being converted into housing.

Then finally two pages from the 1887 1888 Ramsgate Street directory covering Hardres Street.  This was part of my research into the White swan. The Street numbering was all different back in 1887 but as the pub was opposite the gas works it's fairly easy to see that the White Swan didn't exist then. My online search seems to say it did so I've obviously got something muddled up.

If you're interested in this sort of conundrum we publish cheap reprints of Thanet directories here at Michael's Bookshop in Ramsgate so you may wish to come and have a browse to see if you can solve it.

Comments, since I started writing this blog in 2007 the way the internet works has changed a lot, comments and dialogue here were once viable in an open and anonymous sense. Now if you comment here I will only allow the comment if it seems to make sense and be related to what the post is about. I link the majority of my posts to the main local Facebook groups and to my Facebook account, “Michael Child” I guess the main Ramsgate Facebook group is We Love Ramsgate. For the most part the comments and dialogue related to the posts here goes on there. As for the rest of it, well this blog handles images better than Facebook, which is why I don’t post directly to my Facebook account, although if I take a lot of photos I am so lazy that I paste them directly from my camera card to my bookshop website and put a link on this blog.
