Thanet offshore windfarm

VATTENFALL

Thanet Offshore Wind Limited

The Thanet offshore windfarm will be located 12 kilometres off Foreness Point This is to inform you of the preparation work that is soon to take place in the Port of Ramsgate.

As you may already know. last November Vattenfall bought the Thanet Offshore Wind Farm project and now the visible construction work begins. When complete in 2010, the wind farm will generate enough green energy for 240000 homes and Thanet will boast the largest offshore wind farm in the world!

Vattenfall is paying for the port to be dredged and several boats working on the wind farm construction have already arrived. The self-elevating construction vessel Seajack is due to arrive in preparation for the installation of the foundation piles for the wind turbines. This vessel contains accommodation, power generators and a variety of equipment. The major feature of the vessel is its powerful Manitowoc crane. The crane is powered by electrical generators and when it is working there is a higher level of noise experienced in and around the deck. It is possible that these sounds may be audible from places close to the harbour. The level of noise cannot be predicted until work actually begins. It is expected to carry out this work at various times for a period of up to 10 months. Vattenfall is concerned about the people living and working close to the port. We do not want to disrupt daily life, however it is essential that this construction work is carried out. We have been in touch with the Thanet District Council Environmental Health department and they are aware of the situation. We will do everything possible to mitigate any disruption and apologise in advance for any inconvenience.

The purpose of this letter is also to give you some notice and a point of contact if you have any questions. A web site has been launched that will give information about the wind farm and include regular updates on the progress of its construction. The address is http://www.vattenfall.com/thanetwind In addition, there is a telephone helpline that you may use. The number is 07545 339 299.

Sincerely,

Ole Bigum Nielsen
Project Director

  1. I'm writing to comment on the fact that it was advertised that this wind farm would bring lots of employment opportunities to the area this was even advertised on the Vattenfall website. Clearly just a PR stunt!

Comments, since I started writing this blog in 2007 the way the internet works has changed a lot, comments and dialogue here were once viable in an open and anonymous sense. Now if you comment here I will only allow the comment if it seems to make sense and be related to what the post is about. I link the majority of my posts to the main local Facebook groups and to my Facebook account, “Michael Child” I guess the main Ramsgate Facebook group is We Love Ramsgate. For the most part the comments and dialogue related to the posts here goes on there. As for the rest of it, well this blog handles images better than Facebook, which is why I don’t post directly to my Facebook account, although if I take a lot of photos I am so lazy that I paste them directly from my camera card to my bookshop website and put a link on this blog.
