Yes I remember it well. Old and oldish pictures, mostly Ramsgate

A couple of days ago I put a whole group of photos on this blog. they all dated from around 1895 i.e. 125 years ago. After sharing the post to various local Facebook groups where some of the comments were along the lines of how the photos brought back happy memories, I got to thinking about how people view local history.

This photo must date from well before 1895, just to the right of centre you can see the Albion Hotel, demolished to make way for Madeira Walk and Pizza Express. The woman's dress on the far right dates it to around 1860, I think. Anyone who thinks it brings them back happy memories, will be over 150 and I hope they don't visit the bookshop.

The rest of the photos date from 2010

I guess if you are over 75 you, you would have been about nine when this one was taken, so you may remember it like this.

Workwise, a fair few books went out in the bookshop yesterday including some East Kent local history.

Comments, since I started writing this blog in 2007 the way the internet works has changed a lot, comments and dialogue here were once viable in an open and anonymous sense. Now if you comment here I will only allow the comment if it seems to make sense and be related to what the post is about. I link the majority of my posts to the main local Facebook groups and to my Facebook account, “Michael Child” I guess the main Ramsgate Facebook group is We Love Ramsgate. For the most part the comments and dialogue related to the posts here goes on there. As for the rest of it, well this blog handles images better than Facebook, which is why I don’t post directly to my Facebook account, although if I take a lot of photos I am so lazy that I paste them directly from my camera card to my bookshop website and put a link on this blog.
